The truck is in the shop

Dropped it off this morning first thing. Went in with this thread printed out and the mechanic that is working on my truck thought it pretty good reading. They got off the KN track they were on the day before. Re-Flashed my PCM, ordered a new Mass Air-Flow Sensor for Tuesday or Wednesday, and they are also going to hook up the black box to record any stall events after they give me the truck back. In the meantime I'm in a service loaner Taurus. At least at ain't an Echo.

Any updates out there? My 04 Lariat SCrew 4x4 with 820 miles on the odo stalled today going around a corner. Then I had to come to a complete stop in the middle of the road, put in in park and then restart it. This is BS.

Less than 300 miles on mine - have the stalling issue. Stalled out on me twice within 2 minutes. Going to the dealer this afternoon for a PCM ReFlash. Sounds like this fixes it now?.

The dealer reflashed the PCM and *so far* it hasn't stalled again.

Well I wanted them to replace the computer, not just reflash it. If it does it again, I will demand they replace it.

Engine stall - TSB 17646

I just had an identical problem with my 04 S'screw. Returned it to the dealer, they found a technical service bulleting describing the problem. TSB 17646. I believe they wound up re-flashing the control module, but it's hard to tell from the gibberish on the service sheet and I haven't been able to find a description of the TSB online. This appears to be pretty widespread, found lots of similar reports of engine stalls on 04 F-150's. I'm betting this turns into a re-call.
Long & short, get it back to your dealer, ask them to reference the TSB above. Best of luck.

A recall wouldn't be unwarranted. Can you imagine driving down a steep icy mountain pass and your truck stalls? No power steering, no brakes. Real nice.

I had mine reflashed about two weeks ago now, and so far it hasn't stalled again. Tomorrow I go in for the rear end clunk and a rattle near the instrument cluster. This is visit number six since I got it in September.

I have an 04 Fx4 Scab, build date 02/04 from Virginia and my truck has done this 4 times. once was right after I got my dual exhaust put in. ( didn't give the computer time to re-program so counted it off as this) and now 3 times after I installed the Max Performance from Supertuner. All times were after I was going around a corner which sucked because I lost my steering. Going to try the 87 tune and see if the same thing happens.

BUMP!

I've been following this because I have an occasional stall myself. I am using the Superchips tuner also (running performance 91 octane). So how about some help here guys..... If I take the truck into the dealer for a reflash and then reprogram with my Superchips, does it overwrite everything in the PCM?? Or are just certain performance codes overwritten? Anyone know? This stalling is beginning to **** me off a little. Any info on how to clean the MAF sensor? I have a KN Intake and read about the MAF Sensor getting dirty from over oiling. I hate taking my truck into the dealer. I'd rather address this myself if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks JP

I have the supertuner and the same thing has been happening to me. I put it back to stock and it still persists. Guess I'm going to have to take it into the dealership.
