Fender Lip Molding?

OK, I just got my OE Fender lip molding via UPS today, it looks like I have to drill holes into my fender to get them on, does anybody know, or has done this?????

Not positive but I believe I have read in another post that you do have to drill holes to install them. If noone else responds by the time I leave work today I will look under my fender to check to see how it is attached.

Wakehead, do you have to drill into the side or underneath? I too have heard about that because I was looking into getting a set for my XLT, where did you get them?

Got em on E-bay $110.00, it looks like you have to drill right though the fender about 8 times per fender, ouch!

It's the side of the fender. About 6-8 holes all the way around the arch. What do you think about cutting the tabs off? You may be able to use heady duty double sided tape. That's what holds body kits on most newer cars. Or, cut the tabs, then drill in screws from the underside if there is enough room.

I agree, buzz the tabs off, DO NOT DRILL HOLES.
If you take the tabs off you could put them on with some 3M tape just like the attach vent visors and many other fender lip moldings.
Try that out and let me know how it looks...be sure to post pics.

Mine are screwed on...That area takes alot of shaking and I lost one screw and had to refix it...I think you really need screws in that area...They seem to self seal...Mine are 3 years old now...

oh yes you drill under the fender-upwards..the face of the molding you don't see any screws...

What was the outcome of this project? Do you have a pic of the tabs on the back, would adhesive work?

Wow, this has all the makings of a disaster. It takes some real guts to drill holes into the side of the fender. One mis-aligned hole and the whole thing is f'd.

By the way. Is $110 your final price, including shipping from Ebay? I paid $109 when I went to the body shop. You might have been able to get it for the same price at the Ford Parts counter at your dealer.

Just ordered mine off Ebay for 40 bucks + shipping. I figure I will try to remove the push pins and attach them with automotive adhesive. I refuse to drill through the side of my truck. No chance.
Besides a lot of body molding is held on by adhesive so it should be fine.
Any luck with yours wakehead?

I installed these. You have to drill holes in the side of your truck for them to be installed correctly. I would just drill the holes and be done with it. I have a feeling the tape would come off. I dont remember what size drill bit I used, but I had my dad help me hold the flare next to my truck while I marked the holes with a pencil. I then went to Home Depot and got some push rivets for the underside of the flare.

Mine should get here sometime next week. Once I see them then I will assess how to attach them. I will not be drilling holes in the side of my truck though. I know that there are many good auto adhesives out there that hold far more than little plastic fenders on. I am sure adhesive will be fine, I am not talkin duct tape here. With that, does anyone reccomend one? I would prefer a tape rather than a gel base, even though a gel will hold and seal better.
