Copied from Page 6 BAD NEWS....I picked my FX4 Screw up this morning from the dealership. While driving it home I noticed the truck once again vibrated while going up inclines and flat roadways between 50-55 MPH. This is after the rear end was replaced and each step of the TSB was complete. Hopefully the folks from Ford is following this thread and taking good notes.

I called the dealer back this morning and told them about the situation. They want it back at the dealership ASAP.

Ron

I just want to clarify what I'm feeling when the truck starts to vibrate to see if we have a common occurance. Feedback is important.

The vibration starts around 50 MPH and is real apparent at 55 MPH going up inclines and sometimes on flat road surfaces. Rotational vibration can be felt throughout the cab. Dash rattles when vibration is present. Speeds under 50 MPH or over 60 MPH there is not much vibration felt or heard.

Mine is doing the same thing. I don't notice the vibration until 54 mph, and it disappears at about 62.

my vibe is much more intense when it is out of overdrive in 56-62 mph range. I can go through those speeds in overdrive a barely notice the vibe.

Sorry to hear about the problems you guys are having. Hope you get them fixed asap. I am thinking about buying an STX 4x4 with the 4.6. And I was wondering if this rear end vibration is only occuring with f-150's with the 5.4L??? I think I read in this thread that there is a difference with the size of the rearend in the 4.6L trucks and the 5.4L trucks, being that the 4.6L truck's rearend was smaller? If this is the case, does this vibration problem effect trucks with the 4.6L and LS rearends?

PAlongbow,

I was keeping my fingers crossed the your new rear end would fix your vib. I have had everything done except that. My vibration starts about 45 mph peaks at 58 and 65 mph. I have rotated my driveshaft 180 deg. that did help some. Mine is no where near as bad as it once was. The TSB work and my experimenting with tire rotating and driveshaft indexing has it at a minimum but it is still there. I'm not ready to give up yet though. We need to keep this post going ( as much as it irritates the perfect truct guys ), it is very helpful.

Tjaas,

I thought the issue was resolved as well. I was excited to get my truck back yesterday and report that the vibration was gone, but after driving it home and feeling the vibration again....it's now very frustrating.

I know this vibration issue has been beaten to death, but I think it's valuable information being exchanged. I went to another forum last night and read just about everything there was to read in regards to the vibration issue that others are experiencing. We are certainly not alone and the issue seems to be getting more exposure as time goes by. I'm really glad to know that some don't have this problem.

I believe there is no real cure for this problem. I believe things can be done to alleviate the vibration, but I'm almost certain that no permanent fix is available. I'm a huge Ford fan but after having piston slap in my 2000 F-150 and now this mysterious vibration it starts to get old. I know the competition isn't much better, but heck when a man shells out $30,000 for a new truck it should not have these issues. Sorry I understand it's a first year model, however this should have been caught during the test period being that this issue is so wide spread. Something is wrong with these trucks and Ford needs to take action ASAP. I don't think we should just have to accept this as a feature of the new F150.

That’s a bummer that you still got the vibration. I just can’t rationalize why a few trucks are so trouble ridden but the majority of the 2004 F150’s are trouble free. One would assume that all the parts manufactured are “equal”. Well I hope your vibration problem gets squared away soon. Good Luck

Well, I took delivery of my 04 Loaded SCREW in early June, just took it in early this week for the Vib issue and rear end slipping issue. I was informed that the dealer was instructed by Ford that there was nothing they could do at this time for the Vibration. Ford was re-engineering a new driveshaft that "Should" correct the problem.

So I guess I'll just hang in there and see what happens. I would advise all that have this problem (mine between 45-60mph) to go log it with your local dealer. Something has to come out of it.

manOtools,

Interesting......I was afraid of this. Was this coming from a Ford Engineer?

It was from the service department manager of a rather LARGE Ford dealer here in Atlanta.

I can see their side of the issue, if all the dealers keep throwing all sorts of fixes and replacement parts out and doesn't actually fix the problem, they are wasting a lot to time and $$$.

I know its a feature I don't want in a 40k truck, but I'm somewhat patient and we'll see what they come up with in Detriot.

I want it fixed right and not patched.

So this thread has been viewed over 5000 times, out of the 5000 views, only a handful - 20+ or so people are actually having this shutter problem. Is this a fair assumtion?

This being the case, is it likely to expect that Ford would actually do something to fix this issue?

Is it happening after a certian amount of mileage? Is the shutter really that notcieable?

Just curious because I took delivery of my 04 SCREW last month. I now have 1100 miles on it and haven't noticed anything in the way of a shutter or slippage. Is it happening after 5k miles, 10k miles or what?

I felt my vibration around 300miles....it took a few miles to get used to the new truck, sounds, feels, etc. . .. but now I have 2500 on it and it seems to be worse than when it was new.

bio-statix,

I noticed the vibration at around 2,000 miles. It also took me some time to get used to the truck. I believe this topic has been beat to death over the last several months from what I can see, however there is some good information being exchanged. I did a ton of research via other boards and the Internet in general. People are complaining about vibration in the 04 F-150 and it has come up time and time again on other boards. I don't think it's such a small issue. The positive side of this issue is that not everyone has this problem and that is good to see.

Its like my dealer told me that most guys wouldn't ever think twice about the vibration and write it off as a truck thing.
