It's not just that timeframe. I've had an entire '06 driveline from the transfer case back put under mine and a new set of Michelins mounted on my wheels. So far, so good.

The tires are extremely prone to flat spotting it seems like after sitting just for a day. Even these Michelins are doing that (although to a lesser extent). The service manager told me he had noticed that himself on the new body style. These trucks are so heavy they just about need a higher ply tire on them to carry their own weight.

The vibe in my truck seems to have gone away (22,000 miles on the odo). They did grease/lube a yoke (or something on the driveline) a while ago.

Hooray!

RollingRock,
That's strange because my truck was manufactured 07/03.

The only thing my truck has been to the service department for is a service bulletin to replace he upper control arms.

Other than that, the only complaint I have is that the seats are uncomfortable.

Boy I hate posting this but here it goes.

Got a call from the dealership, they pulled 4 tires and wheels off a truck in the lot, put them on my truck and it drove fine. I didn't believe them, so I went down there and drove it myself. Sure enough, smooth as slik...they also said that my BRAND NEW MICHELINS are bad...and they road forced out of spec. The funny part, these are brand new 20 inch wheels (Gunner 6's) from discount tire, I watched them balance the wheels with no tires...then mount the tires and road force balance test them. They call came in under Fords specs....who should I belive?

Thoughts anyone?

I would say if you drove it yourself with a different set of stock wheels and tires and it drove out fine... then that's what it is.

The Continentals that were on mine balanced and road force balanced out but they still had something going on with them. A tire swap to a set of Michelins and it's pretty much gone. It was all gone when they put a set of street tires and wheels off of a 2wd on it but since my 4x4 has larger factory wheels and tires, it just stands to reason that the bigger taller AT tires are going to be a little rougher.

I know those 20's and other after-market wheels are great looking and the styling is much better than the stock wheels but I found many years ago that leaving things stock is better in the long run.

You would think that they could do a better job of balancing those wheels. As you probably know, the larger the diameter is the more difficult it is to balance.

The stock wheels on my '04 STX are really ugly for sure. I've got the no good Continental on mine with 34,000 miles. That's not bad mileage but I like other brands much better.

I've also found that keeping the tires rotated on a regular schedule also helps.

Mine was fixed with a replacement truck. I can honestly say I feel your pain. Good luck with all of your troubles.

Mine's in the shop for the second time for vibe, the first time they did a road force balance of the wheels, installed new driveshaft and did something to the rearend clutchpacks. I hope they fix it but my hopes aren't too high.

Sorry to bring this up but I have a 2004 here at the shop with the same issues described here in this thread and now I have a 2006 coming in this weeks also. Has there been a fix for this known problem??? I have a 2005 FX4 Screw and I have no problems whatsoever.

Two years ago I had my original 17 inch Generals replaced and road force balanced. There was minimal improvement even with new tires. Thinking that I needed to get a new set of rims and tires to be over this misery I bought MB Motoring rims and 20 inch Nittos and had Discount Tire road force balance them. I wasn't very satisfied with that setup either. The 20's were worse. I then asked the dealer to replace my steering rack which they agreed to do. It was a nice improvement when used with the 17s. The dealer advised to ditch the 20s. Finally, I bought a complete take off set of 18 inch FX4 rims and Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires off Ebay. I got lucky. They're a great set. That is the setup I'm on today and everything is fine now for the past 18 months. You need a near perfect set of rims and tires to be happy.

Just swapping out your tire and wheel combo helped you out??. Ok where is everyone that posted complaining about the vibration where are you NOW??? Is it to my understanding that either everyone got new trucks????? or did you all get them fixed??

I had an entire '06 drivetrain (sans motor) and a different brand of tire put on my truck to fix the problem.
