Outside Temperature reading problems

I had a customer call in and say that his outside temp reading in his FX4 was reading low. I checkd the trucks on the lot and they all seem to read low also. Called Ford Tech hotline and "the plant is aware of the problem and figuring out a fix". So if you've got one that the outside temp isn't right, your not alone, and it doesn't have a fix yet.

is this something that Ford will have dealers fix (free, of course) on trucks that have already been delivered to customers?

Yes, I'm guessing it will be a PCM reprogram that will be done under warranty.

Mine does it. Noticed it yesterday. It was a beautiful 70° day, and the gauge read 50° F.

I've had my truck for about two weeks now and I'm glad to see this thread on the temp. readings. Mine has been showing error on temps. i.e. 50 degrees when it's 75 degrees etc. It does seem to correct itself but may take up to an hour to show the correct reading. Should I be contacting my dealer now or wait till ford has a fix? The dealer I have is a very small town dealer, not much in the way of a service center.

Just wait, no reason to call the dealer, they'll just have to do all the stuff I have to find out that there isn't a fix right now. Check with them in a week or two, tell them to call Tech hotline and ask if nothings listed in OASIS.

Well, I was just noticing how accurate mine was compared with the radio station weather man. Guess mine works. Go figure.

These guages use a thermocouple to measure temperature. Therefore, you can get variation from uint to unit. Best guess is they attempted to adjust the computer logic to account for the high temperatures it can read while sitting and not running (solar heating). Mine in my 99 Expedition has read as high as 119 on an 85 degree day. So they probably goofed with the software. I am curious. Those of you who are expericing the problem is it right after you start the vehicle or does it continue to measure incorretly after say 15 minutes of continous driving (Not stop and go).

I had a problem with my temp guage reading wrong on my 2000. I took it to a dealer and they said to unplug, then replug the thermo thing. After a while, I finally found the thermocoupler, un then repluged the wire and it worked fine after that.

If its the same problem I've seen, if you unplug and plug back in the sensor (with the truck on) it will start reading the correct temp. But will be wrong again in the near futrure. I tried replacing the sensor on the first one I saw. It started working so I thought I had it fixed, but a day later it was wrong again.

Called the hotline yesterday and asked on the status of this. Still no fix. He said the fix will be a computer reflash so no new parts. He didn't have an ETA, but didn't think it would take long as it shouldn't have to go through EPA testing since its only a accesorie. I'd guess a couple weeks.
