Question

Hello all, well my truck is in and guess what, the outside temp is way off. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue repaired and if so, is there any sort of info that I can relay to the dealer to expedite this?
They have not seen this yet and I would really like to avoid their learning curve and go straight for a procedure number.
Thanks!!

Still no fix, you can have them call the Hotline and ask, but it wasn't out late last week and the hotline tech thought it'd be a couple weeks. It will just be a computer reprogram no parts will be needed (or so they told me at the hotline).

Unhappy

XCR, thanks for responding....my dealership has been swapping out the sensor under the hood of the new vehicles they have in their lot with mixed results. Even if they do get it to work, it still is VERY SLOW to update the display. I understand the issue will most likely be a software fix, hopefully it won't take to long. If you hear of something, please post-
Again, thanks!

Usually if you unplug the sensor with the truck running and then plug it back in, it will work for a few days. Thats probably why the dealers been swaping sensors as it does fix the problem temporarily.

XCR440SP , mine has the same problem , reads too low temp and reacts slow . I would like to try to unplug and replug and see if it helps. Is the sensor located in front of the radiator , I have seen two sensors there , and I think the temp sensor is the one mounted the highest of the two, is this correct?

The upper is the temp sensor (lower one is a crash sensor). You can slide it up and off of its hanger then its easier to unplug as there is a catch on both sides you have to lift up to unplug it.

I guess it is nice though that the biggest "problem" thread is about the outside temperature guage.

Mine's spot on by the way!

If you live in Michigan like I do then you can just wait a few minutes and the weather will change then your gauge will read correctly. On a more serious note I just drove my new truck that I'm picking up tomorrow and I noticed that it was wrong also but began to rise as I was driving around. I'm going to give it a few weeks and see what happens with the temp dropping around here fast. Maybe it will correct itself? Aaaah a self healing vehicle...now that's not in my owners manual but wouldn't it be nice.

The PCM reprogram is now out. I put one in a truck today, but it didn't instantly make the thermometer read correct. I unpluged the sensor and pluged it back in and now its right. Now I'll just have to wait a few days and see if it stays accurate.

XCR,

Thanks for all of your great information. I was wondering though...

would the temp gauge problem also cause problems with the miles per gallon? I read in an earlier thread of a guys getting 14 + per gallon. I am averaging a measley 11.4 would the PCM reprogramming fix that? I'm not a lead foot and I do run the a/c all the time. I have probably an equivalent of city and highway driving.

So far mine is working well. ( Knock wood )

I checked it against a certified digital temperture standard and it was very close.

It doesn't say anything on the OASIS printout about affecting mileage, but it's possible. One thing I've noticed with the new truck is that people are using more throttle than they normaly do. I think this is due to the quiet interior the sense of speed and accelaration isn't as clear so you use more throttle without realizing it. I also blame this partially on the Electronic throttle as it seems to smooth out the initial stab of the throttle so its not as jerky which also takes away some of the feeling of acceleration.

I noticed the other day I was accelerating much harder than I normaly do without trying. I think this may cause a lot of people to get less mileage than normal.
