My temp is messed up also. It take about 1 hour for it to be close to what the outside temp is

I unplugged and plugged the sensor and it seemed to straigten the mileage right out, and of course the temp started working for now. although mine was only off by 7 degrees or so. Thanks all for your input. it is much appreciated!

Hey XCR, can you let us know tomorrow or the next day if the fix is holding?

Thanx!!!

My truck is one-week and one-day old and I just noticed the problem. It was a very warm day here today and the temp showed 53 degrees around noon. Later in the afternoon it was at 73 degrees. The truck had been sitting in driveway in full sun when I wasn't driving it. The symptoms match what everyone is talking about. I hope the fix is good.......Hey where is the sensor anyway? I have heard you can reset it by disconnecting it and reconnecting it.

The sensor is in the middle of the radiator. There are two electrical devices, the bottom one is a crash sensor and the top one is the outside temp sensor. So far so good, we'll know on Monday when I go back to work. Previously they'd go back to not working after sitting for a couple days.

XCR440SP thanks for the info. I just noticed your previous reply. It is great having your inside info posted on this board...

XCR, you think they'll have this fixed on new built trucks soon?

I plan to re-order mine mid-March so I get it in the early spring and can enjoy it all through the nice weather! This is the first time I'm selling my truck rather than trading it in so I can afford to wait for the good weather this time!

Yes, trucks built after October 6th shouldn't have any problems. See the SSM below (special Service Message).

17261 2004 F-150 BUILT BEFORE 10/6/2003 - AMBIENT TEMPERATURE READING INACCURATE AND/OR POOR A/C PERFORMANCE
SOME 2004 F-150 VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 10/6/2003 MAY EXHIBIT AN INACCURATE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE READING AND/OR POOR A/C PERFORMANCE. TO SERVICE, REPROGRAM THE PCM TO THE LATEST LEVEL USING WDS B27.10 RELEASE OR HIGHER

Just went out and drove the first one I'd reporgramed. Before it would have been off by now, but this time it was 4 degrees high (compared to local bank) on startup, with in 1 block (short blocks here in town) it was within 1 degree and was spot on in 2 blocks, so It was accurate after about 20 seconds. I'd say its fixed!

Has anyone else had their reprogram done, I called my dealer, and they found the info on the problem , but I was kinda waiting , so as I would not be the first they tried to reprogram. Does the reprogram require a CD that they get from fomoco , or is it done via internet download?

I am going in tomorrow to drop off my truck to get my spray in liner at the dealer. I told him about the temp gauge problem and about the software fix that is out. He said hes going to look into it and if there is a fix hes going to have that taken care of too!

I should be getting my truck back friday night, so I will keep you informed.

The fix is a "reflash". The program gets downloaded to the WDS (worldwide diagnostic system) via the Fordstar satelite system. If they plug into the truck the WDS will make them check for new updates if the WDS hasn't been updated in the last few days.

does anything ELSE get changed with this reprogram? I find my AC kinda weak, and the temp does seem to start low, but if it means big changes in how the truck runs, I can live with those.

Anyone know if these two issues are the ONLY things affected, or are other things affected?
