Kudos to you on the work!! That is an awesome job on the work for doing it at home. I would like to build a 2wd drag truck version someday. You did what I have always wanted to do to a f150.

I hope so too. I honestly don't think I can get the engine back out without chopping some metal and removing the A/C condenser, so I'm starting off attempting repairs in the frame.

For those who don't know, it appears the oil pump failed, but it's a strange mystery. Here's the thread:

For those who were not following the "no oil pressure" thread, she is back on the road. I have about 300 miles on it now and the oil pressure is great. It's actually quieter than before. Maybe those mains were worn to begin with...

It's going on a 1200 mile trip next week. Wish me luck.

Post back from time to time with updates. I am curious, I think I would have went a little further because of the cam dust. So yea, I'm curious if she's going to be alright.

Mann, I can't get over how much more the 3V V10 vs the 2 valve. I also wonder if anyone has a forged crank for the two valve 10's yet. I could very easily get 500 horse out of the 2v, - if the damn crank would hold up. For future study. Plan on building my grandson a mud truck, - it's a fairly large event out here thru the summer. Not settled on the power plant yet, - it has to be at least 500 horse for the vehicle to be competitive. It would take allot more getting that out of a v8 vs a v10.

Unfortunately the split journal crank on the V10 is the Achilles heel of these engines. A blower on a 5.4 properly tuned will get you there.

I hear this split pin weakness stuff a lot, but I'm not sure its as big of a deal as it may seem. In fact, I can't seem to find a single 6.8 crank failure. If your searching skills are better than mine, please post a link.

Everything I have read says select 5.4's have a forged crankshaft, but ALL V10's have a forged crankshaft.

Here's a 5.4 with a broken crank:

Look at the abuse this V10 saw. Crank is trashed, but not broken:

This dude boosted his and ran it 25,000 miles:

Yea, - forged from the bottom up and some head work to see 500. - Well, more than once anyway.... Major head work IMO lol. Stg2 or 3... THEN Blown. The engine has to be solid, - I don't mind replacing the attachments as needed. That should level off at some point, I expect.

I had to replace my radiator today and I learned an interesting fact... The radiator dimensions for my truck and the Super Duty that I got the V10 from are the same, but length and width are swapped.

Mine is 17" wide and 32" tall and the SD is 32" tall and 17" wide. Both are 2 row units.

I made the first leg of the trip without issue. Oil pressure good, no noise, no overheating, not burning oil. Over 1000 miles since the repairs now.
