No oil pressure after transmission swap?
No oil pressure after transmission swap?
The 4R100 in my V10 swapped F150 lost first gear. The solenoid pack tested OK, so I replaced the transmission only to have the same issue which sucks, but not as bad the fact that I damaged my engine. When I was test driving after replacing my transmission, the oil gauge wasn't showing any pressure. I assumed I bumped a wire or something because how the hell could I lose oil pressure by changing the tranny?
Well I did. I drove it about 3 miles and when I got home it started rattling. I pulled the oil filter off and cranked it. No oil came out. What gives and why does life hate me?
I pulled the pan to find this:

I filled a coffee can with oil and submerged the pickup - which is clean - and cranked the engine for 15 seconds or so. Still no oil came out of the oil filter attachment. Seems as if my oil pump failed. It worked fine when I pulled it into the garage. WTF...

Probably unrelated, but I changed the passenger motor mount at the same time too.
Those look like aluminum shavings. I'd check your Cam caps and guide, under the cams. Better check the connecting rod caps and crank as well. Hopefully the crank and main are okay.
That really sucks man.

Yeah, the engine forum would have made a lot more sense.
I pulled one rod cap and it was fine, but I'm pretty sure I can see some shavings spitting out from one of the mains. I needed to step away from the truck to prevent myself from spontaneous combustion. I'll get back on it later in the week and report back.

I spent a little time after work tearing it down. I was hoping to find the bypass valve stuck, but it didn't seem to be. When I removed the allen head cap bolt off the bottom of the pump, the piston goodie slid right out.
Anyway I pulled another rod and it looks great. I pulled main cap number 2 - not great. Not a hint of good. These pictures aren't all that great, but here you go...
One of the two rods I checked:

Main #2 with the bearing in place - at least it didn't spin. Not that it matters I guess:

Here's the crank with the bearing removed. The journal looks bad in the pic, but its not scratched, its seems... stained.

I think I can still use this if I switch to 20w50 oil right?

Absolutely not. This has become my wifes daily driver and I already have fast stuff. I took today off work and I don't plan on touching the truck. Wife and I are taking our street bikes on a mountain picnic.

you going to rebuild it, or are you done with the truck... I hope you fix it and keep it...
hope you get that V10 running back to full strength soon!
