Ck to see if when you turn your key on, there is a "theft" light on the dash. You can also turn the key on and off four times I think it is and if the door locks lock then you have keyless entry.

my 97 has it... but the kid (yes a 16 year old kid) that had the truck before me beat the living sh*t out of it. ive had to put almost a grand in it since i bought it and of course he lost all but one key im hoping i can go to the ford stealership and get a new one without having to give up an organ to medical research to pay for it

The 97 models did not have the computer chip in the key so you can go anywhere that cuts keys and have a copy made. I think wal mart does them for under $2.

Cycle the key 8 times quickly ending in the on position. (I think there's a time limit) If the door locks cycle you have keyless entry. That's also the process to program the remotes when/if you get them: cycle key 8 times, locks cycle then press a button on each remote you are programming. The locks will cycle each time you successfully program a remote. Then turn the key off, the locks should cycle again and you're done. BTW, if your truck has power windows, locks, etc, you probably have keyless entry.

will a dealer check that for free?? i tried the key cycling thing but couldn't get it to work, I have the lariat and have power everything, leather seats, its pretty much loaded so i would think it would have keyless entry

edit: or at least wired for it so it would be easy to install it??

Its 9 times in 10 seconds ending in the on position, the locks will lock then unlock, push your remote clicker thingy and it should work. that is if you have power remote locks.

I had the same question!
SO I went down to FORD or as they say here Joeten Motors aka Napa.. So many *******ing names..

And I asked if they could check if they can install the remote and they just asked to see the vin number (on super cab door on mine, right of the drivers door). So they ran the vin and informed me that it could work.. Also gave me a price on the remote and to program it.. 100 + pfsh..... I needed actuators too, but I just wanted to ask for the vin too.

So yeah, the dealership, or FORD at least, could run the VIN and see if its equipped with the remote.

Or are you talking about the keypad????

FYI - I'm a new F150 owner (2001 w/137k miles on it) and was given 1 key & 1 remote doohicky. You can look on ebay & find a ton of different people selling remotes - so, to get back to your original question - if you do the cycle thing (EIGHT times w/in 10 seconds) and your door locks do the up/down thing - then you DO have remote capability. I bought 2 remotes for $20 shipped off of someone on ebay and they worked like a charm. Simple to program. Now I need to get an extra key...worried about that. I know I can get blank for like $8 bucks - but believe only a dealership can program it since it has that little embedded chip thing in it. I imagine that'll cost me a few bucks...we shall see!

Yep, you have to have a dealer program the key. Or someone with a scan tool capable of PATS functions. Some of the better locksmiths are programming keys now, wouldn't hurt to compare their prices to dealers. BTW, once you have two or more programmed keys it's easy to program them yourself.
