Signal mirrors

I had a little mishap today and my passenger side mirror got destroyed...a car coming the other way was over too far and forced me too far over to the side and I clipped my mirror.

Anyways, I'm having a hard time finding a passenger power mirror with a silver cover, so I was thinking of just buying a pair with chrome covers. Then I was thinking some more and thought about maybe upgrading to signal mirrors in the process.

Does anyone know if the existing harness has the connections for the signal lights? It seems like a lot of harness are prewired for all options to make things a little simpler during manufacturing, but I wasn't sure if this was the case. Just wondering if anyone knows? If not, then I'm going to check each pin when I take the old mirror out. Thanks.

The mirrors come only in black and the colored or chrome portion is a snap on piece to color match to the vehicle. If you buy new ones they won't be painted, but if you buy chrome ones you are goos to go.

Since 1997 Ford trucks are wired for every option, so there is only 1 main wiring harness to reduce production part numbers and cost.

So, yes your truck is wired for signal mirrors. Some years it is one all inclusive plug, others have 2 plugs. One for the signal and the other for the mirror controls.

Yeah I just decided to pick up a used OEM mirror for the passenger side. I'm getting one with a chrome cover, so I also bought a chrome cover to change out on the driver's side. I couldn't find anything already paint matched. It'll work out anyway since I'm also changing my bumpers over to chrome ones.

If you still want the signal mirrors you can swap out just the glass with theses.
I put them in my truck,,,wasn't that hard.

You bet, there is a key code sticker on your ECM (you will need this number to make it work)... all you need to do is add the touch pad.

EDIT: Hmmm sorry, misread you post. Keyless touch pad entry would be easier......
But the answer is still yes. You will need new interior door panels with locks, mirror and window switches, window motors, electric mirrors, key fobs and door wiring harnesses... I might be missing something.

Generally it is not worth the hassle or investment on a 1998 (probably $1000 or more for even used parts), or you could just add and after market power lock kit with remote locks.

Can you qualify that statement?

My truck ....... 98 F150 XLT Super Cab 4x4.

You included the 98's in a later post. Are you speaking of interior cab harness or complete harness. I added fog lights and never found the plugs for them that I had hoped to be there. I even had the whole front end apart updating to the 99-03 style. I just wired them in myself.

I also put 1 signal mirror (w/non-signal glass)on my 98. It did plug right up but there was no signal wiring in the plug on my truck.

Bigger Mirrors

Perhaps this is a bit more on topic, sorry.
I had the same experience as thecause. I was sort of squeezed in and an old UHaul truck was parked too far off the curb. My passenger side mirror clipped the big 'ol mirror on the parked truck. So, what I want to do now is slap on some Ford SuperDuty (or something like that) mirrors if they will fit. I want something that looks more "beefy" and I need something with more glass. The stock mirrors are smaller than I like.
So, does anyone know if other Ford mirrors bolt directly to a 98 F150 Lariat?

New to the forum and so just saw your posting. Didn't see a reply to your final question. I'm curious what was your solution? I have a 98 F150 Lariat and have the signal mirrors that have given up on the signal part. Like you looking for a good replacement. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm sorry. I haven't found anything that I liked. Sadly, I haven't looked lately since my truck, "Clifford," was stolen. Yes, my kids called my truck "Clifford, the big red truck" and we had quite the fan club. All of that ended, though.
So, my quest for nicer mirrors has ended.

Sorry I can't help more.

Wow, that a real bummer, I guess mirrors are the least of your problems now. So sorry to hear about "Clifford". The only good news is that there are a lot of possible replacement F150's to chose from.
Sadly there was only one "Clifford".
