2015 3.5 Ecoboost redline
Hey everyone,
New to the site, seems like you guys have some useful answers to some questions other people have had, so I'd figure I'd try it out!
My question is, how much damage can actually be cause driving these at redline? I shift at WOT/redline maybe 5 times a week, usually when someone is feeling froggy, and wants to run em, just a quick spirt to about 80 is all I do. But the truck has 6500 hundred miles on it. Getting ready to change the oil in 2 days. It's stock, so I know if anything happens its covered under warranty, but I don't want the inconvenience!
Thanks for all responses!
(I hope I put this in the right thread lol)

Hi and welcome! Unless something changed in the 2015 model year, the truck's computer will keep you from revving the engine into a state that will cause damage, either to the engine itself or to the transmission.
Basically, it simply cuts spark and fuel when the engine reaches the max RPM setting. And, doesn't restore those things until the RPM drops back into the "safe" range.
If I've got this wrong, someone will be along quickly to correct me.

It's a truck. Meant to tow big trailers and haul stuff. It's not a racecar, nor is it built for it. Will the engine hold up? Probably it's a pretty stout engine. Not letting it shift when it should by manually shifting and letting it redline is neglect, yes. I run my truck hard too, but won't blame Ford when it blows up.

On a stock tune you can't over rev the engine, the PCM won't let you. Also consider, the 3.5 EcoBoost is a very close cousin to the base model 3.7L that has a redline of around 2K higher but the 3.5 has stouter internals. However, the real choke point is the factory turbos. Those little K03s can't pump enough air volume to feed the engine at really high RPMs. As a result the intake charge temps go up and power really doesn't increase.
