but what about.....

I hear people talk all the time about putting 285/75/16 tires on their truck, but what about 305/70/16 tires. They are almost identicle in height but they are a bit wider. do these rub or are the 285 size just more readily available? I was looking at some 305 and wanna make sure they wont rub....well atleast rub to bad!

Ron

i have a 02 extended cab 4x2. What size do you think i could put on it without them rubbing??? Thanks!!! Also I like your rims!! I was looking at thoes and the nitro's. Are they chrome?? I want to get the chrome rims/larger tires with a deeper tread to get that look without lifting.

sdf150guy, I am not sure if 305's will work on a 2x4...I had better leave that to one of the 2x4 guys to answer.
Those rims are 16x8 AR Pythons, but they are polished....I HATE the polished rims...very time consuming to maintain. My next purchase (when these tires wear out) are 18" chrome wheels and the Nitto 33x13-18 inch tires.

twistedfinn, thanks! I still may end up lifting the Screw...If I do, then I will go with the BF Goodrich 35x12.5x18.

if you decide to sell thoes rims anytime soon, let me know, i may be very interested in buying. Im guessing that within 6 months i will be getting lift/rims/tires. Where did you get your step bars???? I was looking for some like that.

there should be approximately 2in difference between the 305s and the 285s. 305s are equivalent to 33s, and im guessing that 285s are gonna be somewhere around 31s. I have 315s on mine and those are basically the same as 35s. 305s probably wont fit without rubbing really bad.

hey mange.....you say u got 305's on your truck which looks awesome! do you have a lift or torsion bars cranked? I really like the looks of them and if you don't have a lift and they fit...thats what i will be getting.

No lift, and no torsion bar crank either. They fit just fine. No rub, no matter how hard you turn the wheel. I got the SS nerf bars at Ziebart.

As for the 285 vs 305 issue, I think that most 305's are 70 series (ratio of tread width to sidewall height) and the 285's are 75 series.

305's are around 33x12.5's
285's are around 33x11.5's

(they are the same height, different width)

Check out this calculator:

Most 305s are 75 series which would make them taller than the 285s.

FWIW - My 286/75/16s are listed as 32.85" overall diameter by the manufacturer.

The 285/75-16 is basically a 33/11.5-16 and 305/70-16 is a 33/12.5-16 the width is what makes them rub. If you want a tire that does not rub but gives you the same height I would go with the 285's.
