Hi guys,

I purchased a set of Michelin LTX M/S2 tires that have a 60K warranty and only got 46K out of them. I thought it might have been something I did and purchased another set but it was the LTX M/S and at 40K miles, they have no tread left. I was careful to keep the air pressure correct, get a four wheel alignment when purchased and had them rotated on schedule. They just seem to wear out over night at some point. I am in Florida so not sure if that matters. I love the tire as the ride is great and they are really quiet until they just let go. I'm debating whether just to stay with what I love and just live with the shorter than advertised mileage or see if there something else that people love that will last longer as these are not cheap. These are on a 2011 Platinum, two wheel drive 20" rims. Thanks for any recommendations.

 

According to Consumer Reports, you'll only get 40k out of these. So you are hitting it correctly.

You need a harder compound tire for it to last.

I recommend Goodyear Assurance MaxLife tires.

 

I have MICHELIN DEFENDER LTX M/S 255 /70 R16 111T SL OWL on mine, they have a 70K warranty, and they are wearing very well. I don't really understand why you aren't getting good mileage out of yours.

 

I just looked up tires for you at Discount Tire - 275/55-R20. They list 2 with 80k warranty, both Bridgestones.

I have driven 3 sets of Michelin LTX m/s and never gotten more than 40K on a set (1997 F150, 2002 F-150). My neighbor drives a Land Cruiser and uses the same tire. Always getting 60K or more on each set.
Best tire for me is the Cooper Discover HT plus, 75K on the last set, although I did run them down to slick, if I'd replaced them when I should have, it would have been more like 65K. (2010 F150). I now have 25K on this set and still looking new. (2017 F150)

 

I can't figure it out either and many of the reviews seem to have the same issue I have. Not sure if it is size related. Just an FYI, mine seem to be wearing normal also and then almost overnight they seem to wear really fast. It is strange.

 

Thanks. I have looked at every tire that fits my truck but really can't tell how they perform on paper. The Michelins were very quiet, rode smooth and handled well.

 

Having had both, how would you compare the noise and ride quality? My biggest desire is a tire that is very quiet like the Michelin.

 

To be honest, it's been awhile since I ran Michelins on the trucks so it would be difficult for me to compare the two as far as ride quality and noise. The Michelins were always a quiet tire, but the Coopers are quiet enough that I don't notice them and the additional mileage I got on the 2010 convinced me put them on the 2017 when the factory Hankook Dynapro AT2s wore thin. They must be pretty quiet and smooth...... the wife falls asleep on most rides over two hours.
