Better stopping power available?

My 2002 supercrew has 22' wheels and I noticed that the brakes have never been that great even when I had factory wheels. Any of you upgrade your front disks, calipers, and rotors and can honestly say it made a significant difference?
If so,
Where did you get the parts?
What parts did you order?
how much did you pay for parts and labor?

Look on ebay. There are drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pad kits on there all the time. Power stop brand which is part of Baer brakes

The brakes on our 97 - 03 trucks suck big time. The only thing that will significantly help is the big brake kit which runs about $2500 the last time I looked. I was tempted but I couldn't get a clear answer as to whether I would need to buy larger wheels for the brakes to fit behind. Your larger wheels would most likely allow the fitting of the big brakes. May be worth the money if you plan to keep your truck long term but it is a substantial expense for an old truck.

10 years ago I replaced my fronts with Centric Posi-Quiet rotors and ceramic pads. They lasted almost 115k.

You don't necessarily need slotted and drilled rotors - you just need premium quality rotors and pads.

glc, did the pads squeal? I had heard they can be noisy. I know they're much more durable and provide superior stopping. That and they don't cover your wheels in dust like the cheap ones do.

Those pads were totally quiet and almost completely dust-free.

My Pads produce 0 dust and 0 squeal. GLC is right, High quality over the 14.99 pads and 24.99 rotors at the five and dime parts stores. Yeah they stop but you'll be lucky if you get 20k miles out of them too.

I only asked because I've heard they can squeal. I installed a good set of semi-metallic pads on my truck, haven't had the dust issues I did with the pads that were on it. Place I got it from had to have used the absolute cheapest they could buy on it, a day after I'd wash it they were filthy again

I am running Stop Tech slotted rotors on my 01, with Wagner Thermo Quiet pads with no complaints. Previously had power stops and they cracked at about 100000 miles. No complaints until then. Definite improvement over stock, and over my 98 Lariat SC. I just ordered a set of Stop Tech slotted cryogenic rotors, for my 2010 along with Wagner's new OEX pads.

I am big fan of the Wagner Thermo Quiets. I have them on the 01. I also have them on my daughter's Accord, and Elements, and had them on the wife" CRV before we traded up. Dusting is greatly reduced, no noise, good life and great stiopping power.

All of the 97-2003 models are under braked, short of going to an aftermarket BBK, which brings other issues, the best solution is a high quality set of Discs (Baer, Stoptech, Powerslot, EBC, Frozen, Brembo, etc ) , and a good set of pads.

I would recommend staying away from cross drilled, as they have been known to crack.
