Exclamation Dont waste your time and money on EBC Brakes

Purchased four new EBC slotted and dimpled rotors with EBC Greenstuff pads for around $900. After only 2000 miles the rotors were blued and the pads were glazed and heat cracked under normal highway driving. A 30 yr experience EBC rep informed me that the Yellowstuff pads would cure the problem and I would be amazed on how well they would perform. I discussed the issue with the blued rotors and he said the break-in compound would remove the blued hardened spots. What a joke.. After another 4000 miles the rotors were even worse and the 30 yr master of brakes told me to have the brakes turned at Pep Boys as they were experts. I had the expensive rotors turned after only 6000 miles and the problem returned within 500 miles.

EBC would not make good on replacing the rotors and pads. Next time I will stay with US made/brand pads like wagner, raybestos, bendix, or OEM. Even if they are made in china, they have to be better than the garbage made by EBC. I have discussed EBC with my local parts distributors they also tried on their corvettes, etc. and agree EBC may be ok on Mini Coopers, but not full size trucks or high performance cars.

Why would a company make slotted rotors and not expect them to be used in more extreme than normal situations. That really doesn't sound like a company I would want to be a part of. Thanks for the info, and sorry about the bad luck with the brakes.

I’ve only ever used them on dirt bikes and they worked just like the oems. Thanks a ton for the info. Ill be needing new brakes next summer and thanks to this story I know what not to look at. I hate hearing crap like this the $uc*ing company needs to own up

Did you post on the BBB
I’ve done it 3 times and had very good results

1 complaint about a Bushmaster and I had a phone call from CS manger in 45mts after the complaint NO BS

1 complaint about tuning with STS Turbo systems and I had my money back in 3 days after I dropped the complaint

Here you go. It may help a little. Spice it up if you feel the need. Enough complaints and a reputable company will start to feel the sting. After being burned a few years back I always check the bbb report on big ticket items. Even if the company is not part of the BBB it will leave a trail for others to see when researching the company.

Wow, good thing you posted up about this...one story must make it a fact...you saved us all!!

Search around guys...EBC brakes are great and so are the 7000 GreenStuff pads. Been running both for years on my truck with great results. Many stories on here with people very pleased with EBC. They're not that big from selling junk.

It does suck about your situation, true. But there's most likely a combination of things that caused them to not work out for you. But, EBC is not junk.

Exclamation Dont waste your time and money on EBC Brakes

I have also used EBC sintered brake pads on my Honda CR's and XR's for years with decent performance off road and on the track. It was for this reason I chose to use on my pickup. Bottom line, there have little experience making brakes for heavy applications even under minimal/normal stopping performance. The point is don't waste your money and stay with US brands or OEM.

PS I attempted to rate EBC on their web page and other suppliers including Autoparts Warehouse where I purchased. The below average ratings are all rejected by the websites and only the excellent and good ratings are posted. Try it yourselves.. all you see is good and excellent ratings at almost all sites that sell the products.. Good luck

I do believe the OP has a different problem. I have had the EBC slotted and dimpled rotors on my 07 with the 'green stuff 7000' pads on front and the yellow ones on the rear for approx 4000 mi now with zero problems. Excellent braking and zero dust !! I for one would recommend them to anyone. Just remember, don't always judge a product with only one review. I for one will not be changing mine very soon, I'm very pleased with them.

If the rotors are "blued and the pads were glazed and heat cracked" after 2000 miles of normal driving in highway conditions, where they would see minimal braking, then there is a large piece of relevant information missing from this story. There is something wrong with the OP's truck, or the install if this story didn't actually happen as it is told here.

How is is possible to get enough heat to get 'heat cracking' on the rotors driving down the highway at 70mph.

I have had EBC Greenstuff on my Viper for more than 6 years without a single problem. It is half the weight, but it does see some high speed spirited driving and my brake dust was just about eliminated.

I am not sure what happened in your situation, but they make a quality brake pad. See if you can go over the reps head to get to someone who can help with your problem. I am sure they do not want the bad press.

I have ebc pads and rotors on a audi wagon, they stop great, but whine at slow speeds. It's nothing you hear unless the windows are down but still it's a little agrivating considering the price.
