02 F-150 315s stock rims wheel spacers needed?????

I am asking this question for a friend of mine.... He recently bought a set of used 315's to put on his stock rims. After cranking the t bars up he took them to a local tire shop to have them installed and when he came back to pick the truck up, they told him they would not fit. Supposedly the tires are hitting the ball joints and they cant even tighten the lug nuts down. I have never heard of this before Is it true or did he just take it to some morons??? If it is true how wide do the spacers need to be? will 1/4 inch work?

A lot of people here and FTW have run 315/70-17's (35x12.50) on stock 97-03 F-150 4x4's using the OEM wheels for years with no problems. They will rub the frame slightly at full steering lock but I've never seen a post about them touching the upper control arm ball joint.

Isn't it possible he could have 16" rims and a 315/75 16? If so, that would be a slightly different profile, and you could experience what he said. IMHO, a 315 is waaaaay too wide for a stock width wheel wether it will fit on the truck or not...and they'll just flat out look like crap.

Thought they weren't yours...you said it was for a buddy. So I guess I said his look like crap.

Not trying to be a tool, sincerely. But if you're sensitive to opinions a forum is probably not the best place for you. A 315 is waaay to wide for what, a 7 1/2" wide wheel? Yea, looks like crap. But, that's an opinion and everyone's got one. This one is just mine.

Everyone has a different opinion. I've seen several stock 4x4's with 35's and I have a friend running that setup but personally, I think 33's look better at stock height/leveled.

They don't look like crap. They would look bigger on a wider rim, but wont fit with out trimming or lift. 315/70/17's wat i have too and they wear fine.
Here is mine with 33's

35s below

more guys with 35's on stock wheels

He had to trim alot with aftermarket wheels, i think i read 17x9 with 4.5bs

34x12 (295/70r17)

315/70r17(35)

easy guys, and claybob, we do not tolerate personal insults on this site. If you don't want disagreeing opinions, you should not ask the question.

i have 35s on a 02 f150 on 16s and they fit just fine, all i have done is the torsion bar turned up, so im pretty sure your buddy took his truck to some idiots, and to talk about anything looking stupid would be having a lift on a truck with 33's which would fit stock, thats like putting go kart tires on a four wheeler
