7 Lug rant! (for the 2% who actually care))

Can someone please explain to me (a Ford factory engineer would be nice), why Ford puts these stupid grey steel 7 lug wheels on these trucks?!?
If your not going to make an optional upgrade to this wheel, don't make it in the first place!
Secondly, I don't understand why a company (like Moto Metal and there 951, or Mazzi with there Hulk), which has had wheels that have been extremely successful in the F150 market, don't concentrate on making a 7 lug wheel that actually looks GOOD on these trucks. Pick a wheel that has already been proven successful, and make it as a 7 lug. Instead, we have these companies that pick a wheel (any wheel) that they can drill 7 holes in and offer it as an option. Seems to me if someone came up with a wheel that actually looked good on these trucks, everyone with a 7 lug truck would by it! I myself have been looking for years for a 7 lug wheel that I liked. I think I know of every 7 lug wheel out there and 99.9% of them SUCK!

Ford and/or aftermarket wheel companies, ARE YOU LISTENING!

Have a Merry Freakin Chrismas!!!!!!!!!!!:santa:

It doesn't seem like there would be enough of a market for any company to bother making them. Would they make any profit? Even if half the ppl with 7lug wheels bought? Prolly cost them.
Sorry

i feel your pain that is partially the reason why i went w/ the 5 lug.. have you considered swaping hubs and rear axle.. i personally dont know how much work or money that would consist of but if i were in your situation thats what i would look into

Sorry
Exatlly...why would they spend any money on such a small market...hey lets make ear muffs so peoples pet hamsters ears don't get cold...yup those handful of people that care about their pet hamsters that much...i'm sure they are out there but would flip a ***** profit on them. Its plain and simple there is not enough demand for them so they aren't going to fork out money on stock that will just sit at thier warehouse..you can do a couple things.

1) get blank wheels depending on who makes them and get them drilled to your pattern. Costly but go big or go home.

2) get lug adapters to a more common pattern. People kinda frown on them but if you are that desperate take chances!!

Probably should have bought a regular F150 or an F250, the 7 lug wheels are very rare to find if any, in aftermarket manufacturing. The low amount of them out there the less reason companies see to produce them.

you know how many trucks run 7x135 bolt patterns?

the 7700 series, thats it. What company is gonna make a selection of wheels to fit that? Answer, NO company is going to offer a nicer style wheel.

there are companies that will make custom wheels, they will cost you anywhere from $1k all the way up to well whatever you can imagine.

The wheels ARENT gonna look exactly like the wheels you will buy from Muzzi or Moto Metal, but they are strong and can be designed to anything you could possibly want. If you would like to see some pictures i can dig them up. Your mind is the only limit on this

well i went ahead and found some examples of custom wheels. Most of the ones ive found were designed by Long Wheel & Rim, ive talked to them and they have had their wheels with 52" tires over 85 MPH and no issues. They said they have never had any issues ever.

Most of the time these wheels are made for trucks running 2.5 ton axles but they can be made for anything in any diameter or width with whatever backspacing you need. I recommend sticking with the 4" or 4.5" though unless you plan on lifting quite a bit

These are just examples, there are much wilder creations out there. like i said whatever you can describe is do able.

Actually wheels for the 97-03, (5 on 135) are getting really hard to come by. When I was looking for mine, most companies said they couldn't justify making wheels for anobsolete bolt pattern.

you think the 5x135 are hard to find. you can still find them. I can pull up 10 different wheels for that bolt pattern that are available.

And these wheels are always easy to find used. these trucks are 10+ years old people are changing up all the time. Just got to look

I understand about the limited market on the 7 lug wheels, supply and demand. The bigger question is, why make a 7 lug wheel in the first place? Especially if ALL your going to offer is a steel wheel with no upgrade.

I actually have a '04 LARIAT SCAB 4x4 LONGBOX with the stupid gray 7 lug wheels on it! How much sense does it make to build a Lariat and put gray stamped steel wheels on it?

Still think it would be beneficial for one of the more popular f150 wheels be made as a 7 lug. Again, the current selection SUCKS.

I love my truck but I'm just frustrated like many 7 luggers. Thanks for listening

Put some 35"s on it. It'll make those wheels look alot better imo!

yeah i think the 7 lug was point less they could have kept the 6 lug with the heavier duty pickup instead of going with 7 i put a new rear in my truck last week i also snaped one of the axles, here isa price on that axle if you wanted to swich to the 6 lug bolt pattern i paid 214$ for one axle, i'm not sure how much the front is but just the 2 rear would be 428$ plus now you would have to go find wheels as well plus the labor you would have to do to exchange them, i think ford was high on something when they desighned the 7 lug, excuse my spelling

Rims

In the 7x150 lug size: CenterLine, Moto, Eagle and Alba are just a few of those that have rims (if I remember correctly) in 17x8, some even larger diameter and width. I was looking at some Ultra Rogues but I'm told they haven't even made any yet untill they have enough ordered.

Mine has Eagle 058's, 17"x8", 4.5" BS. Fit and work ok but I'd like more BS to keep them inside the fenders.

IMO Ford should have just ran an 8-lug set-up on the 7700's.

Now this f150 is not only long, but really sikkk...

I know, I know... even though it isn't stick shift, I'd still would love it sitting in my garage.

But then again, my manual F150 still is sik.

Edit:

I saw a long bed regular cab XL 4x4 v8 5.4l the other day with factory chrome rims.... it looks sik looking too.

I love really long trucks.
