Kleen Wheels

I have a 05 F-150 4WD and have excessive brake dust on the front rims (original OEM pads). I have read all of the forums about replacing the pads but I only have 12K miles on the truck and hate to go to the expense of replacing the pads at this point.

My question is: Is there some down side to using "Kleen Wheels" as an alternate fix. It seems that $50+ seems like a small price to pay if there is no negative result from using them.

Comments please!!

i wouldnt say this is a downside but, the dust will build up overtime inside the wheels and may damage the wheels. i wish the provious owner of my truck had kept the wheels clean they were very nasty when i got the truck, the whole truck was nasty really just needed a good cleaning. but if you have OEM's got for it! mixed thoughts about kleen wheels on aftermarket rims.

Just purchased some for my 05 fx4. $106 dollars to do all 4 wheels. Not bad considering all the time and effort theyll save me in cleaning.

I would be afraid they would limit airflow to the brakes which could cause the pads and rotors to run hotter and wear faster.

For $100 you can get new pads and not worry as much about brake dust buildup?

My thoughts exactly, check out Wagner Thermoquiets - they have a $30 mail in rebate if you buy all 4 pads.

I agree with Wandell! Even though most of these are "slotted" to get air to them, they are still restricted in the amount of air that gets to the wheels and rotors. I would go with better pads and rotors.

Right now you can go to Advanced (place I got mine) and get you a set of Wagner Thermoquiets for 50ish with a 15 dollar rebate.

I posted and posted site to site untill I got addicted here looking for brake dust solutions. The guys here gave me the info I finally did the job and no more brake dust!

Wagner Thermoquiets worked for me. less than 100 bucks and you wouldn't believe how easy they are to change out.

I put on the Wagner ThermoQuiets at 11,000 just to eliminate the dust. I have 72,000 on them now and lots of miles left. Using the Kleen Wheels seems to be just covering up the symtom rather than eliminating the problem. Most of the time, when you treat a symtom rather than the problem, it just complicates things. The dust will still be there and it has to go somewhere, and you will have less air flow. I just don't see any downside to installing quality pads.

Are the factory pads organics or semi-metallics?

They are sorry semi-metallic. The ThermoQuiets and CarQuest Blues that many on here have gone to are also semi-metallic, just top quality. I'm sure there are other good semi-metallics, just have not heard any reviews on them.
