Ive had it with brake dust

Not that I dont like cleaning my truck but the dust from the stock brakes is just ridiculous.
So since I was at autozone tonight, they suggested duralast ceramics for the front - $55.00. Said they wouldnt squeak, sequel, had rubber behind them to cut the noise out. Have heard that the ceramics may warp the rotors.

Dont know much about brakes, other than I want a set that dont make your front wheels pitch black in 2 days, and if anything improves stopping and not the opposite.

What do you guys recommend?

Search "brake dust" and see, typically Carquest's blue line, either ceramic but most popular semi-metallic is par with Wagner thermo-quiets as far as what you seek. I say anything semi-metallic with a warranty is a safe bet. Carquest is made mostly by Raybestos. Anything is better than stock really. Try the ones you mentioned, hell, you'd be out 55 bucks and betcha you'd have half the dust for fun. My recommendation is to turn (cut/resurface) the rotors or buy new ones.

another option is to put dust shields on.
Basically a thin aluminum disk that mount just behind your wheel

true, but that is kind of a cheap way to fix it, and think of all the heat thats not cooling off as quick as it should, and cleaning them must be a PITA too.

when you really think about it, if you are replacing brake pads only because you dont want to clean brake dust- then a dust shield makes perfect sense because the dust never makes its way around to the wheel. As far as heat- I bought these from a racing site- they have fluted slots in them that channel air through the thin aluminum shield and away from the wheel. They are supposed to help cool. I havent had any issues with them even getting hot enough to burn off the paint that is on them

I don't want to see a shield behind the wheel, personally. I like my higher quality pads. If you like the shield, then it is certainly an option.

I'll put in a good word for the Carquest semi-metallic blues. Low dust especially compared to the factory pads.

One word on turning your rotors. I had the rotors turned when I replaced the factory pads and that was at 34,000 mi on the vehicle. Now with 56,000 mi the pads are still great but the rotors are warped. Unless your vehicle is almost new I would opt to replace rotors as well as pads.

the thicker the rotor is (i.e. brand new) the more resistive it's going to be to warpage. when you have a rotor turned, it removes some of the metal, increasing the probablity that the rotor will warp.

I agree totally on that point. I had dust shields for awhile and took them off because I thought they looked like crap.
