Hey all-

I have an opportunity to borrow a single waverunner one a single axle trailer. Total load weight is right under 1,000 lbs. I have a 3.55 open differential, and a 5.4l. I just put the 35s on Saturday, and I've noticed a slight decline in horsepower already. The question is... is my truck going to have a hard time pulling the load with the new tires? The trip is 8 hours, down the east coast from Baltimore to Myrtle Beach. Think my weak gears can manage?

 

No you shouldnt have a problem, waverunners dont weigh that much. I tow my atv all the time (and its heavier than most waverunners) with 35's but i have 3.73 gears but you should still feel fine just make sure if the trailer is gonna sit an angle tie it down really good or get a drop hitch. Have fun.

 

I agree, IMO you should have no problem at all...I have an 05 Screw 4x4 with 3.73 and tow package and I pull a toy hauler with a couple bikes in it all the time. I don't have 35's but the weight I am pulling (I am guessing) is at least 4 times the weight of that wave runner. In your owners manual it should tell you max weights GVWR, etc. just don't forget to subtract alittle for the bigger tires, I think www.4wheelparts.com has a tire to gear ratio chart in the tire section. What type of lift did you go with to fit the 35's and how much trimming did you have to do? Post a pic...

 

My girlfriend has my camera, I will post pics later this week.. but I have a 3" body, 2.5 levelig kit, and 315 70 17s. I pretrimmed my valance, about 3" so it cleared up front. I wanted to trim the fender flare myslef, because they wanted $50 to do it. I'm leaving the parking lot and I tore one of my fender flares out. I pulled it back in the garage, and the dude took a little off and charged me 50 bucks. When I got home I threw a little sheet metal screw in there to tac the flare back on. The crazy thing is... a member had just told me, that he did that to his also, the day before. (See thread "Pre-trim?")

 

If you get into hilly terrian or notice the tranny shifting constantly in and out of overdrive, turn you overdrive off.

 

I also tow a waverunner dident make that much of a difference, if your truck lags from the tires by the time yiou drive 8 hours you will fell it ,just shift out of over drive .
PS regearing on thursday from 3.55 to 4.56 not for towing just to get back to easy driving

 

My truck pulls good with my 33's, but my 35's cut it down big time. Have to shift in and out of OD a lot. Best way to make a slow truck even slower is put on some 35's!

 

just threw on some 285x65r20's, which are just a tad under 35" and narrower as well and def noticed a power drop when hauling. i pulled my 24' toy hauler 7 1/2 hours to Pismo beach and really only struggled on the steeper hills. Anyone who has driven the 166 from Bako to Pismo knows though that when i say steeper hills i am talking about a 7 to 8% grade. I second my previous post, a wave runner should be a piece of cake!

 

Dude we toy that with our Focus zx3, you cant even thell it's back there.
