Post 33" tires on a 2wd?

I have a 2wd STX with 17" rims and want to put the 33x12R17 pro comps on it. I have a 3" coil and A arm lift. Can I put the tires on? If rubbing on the suspension components is a problem can I use a wheel spacer?

I have a 2wd, sport package, same as stx, with no lift and 285/75r15, which are 33x11.4 and they fit fine. You won't need the lift, but it shouldn't hurt. You will want to avoid wheel spacers b/c they make your rims no longer hub centric and therfor weaker. What you will need is rims with the correct offset. I think that if you get some with 3.625" back spacing that should be fine. But don't go more than 4" or you tires will rub when you turn. If you already have the lift on there, that's fine. I'm not sure it will work perfect with the lift because of the increased wheel travel. I do know that it will work with no lift because there is little wheel travel so they pretty much stay in place. I think that for my 2000, there is about 3-4" of travel up front. That's nothing. I know this sounds backward with the lift possibly hindering the correct fitment, but that's what happens with lifts. As for the back, there won't be any problems. Hope this helps.

First of all, a 285/75 tire is NOT a 33" tire, it is a 31". A 305/70 is a 33". You want to mount the new 305/70/17 PRO-COMP tire on your stock Ford 17" inch rim. They will fit, and you will need that lift you have. The only problem you will run into is due to your 7.5 inch rim. The tire will balloon slightly with such a narrow rim and might rub your control arm. You can cut the bottom plastic spoiler if necessary as well as the plastic inner fender. You should be ok with that set up. Is the back lifted at all? Even a 1.5 inch block would work. Good luck, PRO COMP tires are great.

r0Land...are you sure you have a 15 inch rim?? And of you do, why?

Correction time a standard 285/75/16 tire is 32.8" some brands such as mine are 33.1"
A 265/75/16 is 31.6"
A 305/70/16 is 32.8"
The only differance between the 285 and 305 is width. the 285/75 is depending on maker 11.2-11.6 where as the 305/75 is 12" wide

Thanks for the clarification, UB6IB9, your exactly right. btw, nice looking ride!

GRIDE, I have a 285/75r16 tires, that would imply I have 16" rims. Secondly, a 305/70r17 is a 34" tall tire. Try getting your calculations right before you go telling others they are wrong.

Anyone wanting to figure their own tire height here is the formula

Formula example 285/75/16

285 x .03937 = 11.22
11.22 x 75% = 8.41
8.41 x 2 = 16.83
16.83 + 16 = 32.83

r0land....
In you original post, you state that you have 285/75r15 tires. In your signature, you say that you have 16" tires. You are confused buddy. This why I asked you if you were sure that you had 15" tires. DOn't be so frisky in the future until you check up on yourself.
As for my calculation, it was improper due to that fact that I used a 15 inch tire instead of a 16, that was my mistake. The PRO COMP 305/70/17 is the equivalent of a 33/12.5/17...close enough anyway.

Why don't you guys just suck it up and lift your trucks before you go putting 33's on them...they look like crap at stock height. It looks as bad as putting very low profile tires on a car without dropping it. That is just my opinion though.

As for you r0land, chill out, I asked you a simple question about your confusion.

Hey, Gride, you are right, in my orig. post, I had the 285/75/r15, that was my bad. But the only reason I was so "frisky" was that you were equally "frisky" in your post. If your gonna dish it out, you better be prepared to take it as well.

dwdodd, where did you get this #, .03937, from? Last time I checked, there are 25 mm to an inch.

BFG, lists their all-terrains as 32.9" in diameter. What does this mean? Tire manufacturers vary the actuall diameter of their tires a bit. In the end, the true diameter is partly due to the ammount of air pressure in your tires and the weight you place on them.

Nevermind, just figuered out where that # came from, it is a more accurate # for the conversion. There are acctually, 25.4 mm /inch. So your #s are more accurate, but the above statement about how different tire manufacturers vary the actuall tire size they use still stands true. Thanks for the correction.

There's a calculator at TheRangerStation.com at the bottom in the middle of the page. There is also a speedo correction and a few others that might be helpful to you guys!!

I'm new to full sized trucks and with all this discussion about tire size I have a quick question. The tires on my F-150 are 31/10.5R15. Does that mean I have 31" tires. The previous owner said he did not lift it at all.
