Talking Need Larger Tires

Want larger tires and rims. I have a 2001 4X4 Supercrew. How wide of rim should a get 16.5? Need tire size also, needs to be wider. I like BFGoodwrench AT. Please post pictures if you have any. Thanks.

Did you have to cut anything, or raise the truck? Looks GREAT!!!!! How does it tow a load with larger tires. I will be pulling 4500lb boat, or 16ft trailer with 3 ATVS on it.

Goochy,

I just had BFG 285/75/16 tires mounted on my 2001 F-150 SuperCrew on the stock 16" rims. They fit and look great. Didn't know if they would fit but the guys at discount tire have always been willing to 'try' a tire on my vehicles to ensure good fit, no rubbing etc..
They put one on and after we'd tried the steering from lock to lock and eye-balled the clearances, I gave the thumbs up and as a bonus, we found out that this tire JUST fits the spare tire well under the rear. The guys didn't think the spare was going to fit but voila, fits like a glove (any taller however and I'd be driving on the next size down).

If you are interested in comparing other sizes/prices try www.discounttiredirect.com

They have a good selection of BFG ATs with pricing information.

No, there was no cutting needed. From what I can tell there would be no clearance problems lock to lock or at the bump stops. Granted, this beast hasn't seen any mud holes yet but I haven't heard any rubbing at all.

Thanks Deesrt Dog, and KKirt. I really Love Kirts 305/70/16 16x8 set up. I'm going to try that, because I will not be off roading it anyway. Looks like they fit great! Kirt what about your spare can you still use it? Do yall pull a load with the tires, how does it pull(5000lbs or less). Do you use overdrive or cut it off when towing? Thanks Alot I had 1 mile on it Nov 25 now I have 300 on my first FORD ever, the Z71 had to go.

I'm not sure about the spare. I would be hesitant to put it on the rear axle since I have Limited Slip. If I put it on the front I bet it would pull pretty hard. Oh well, I haven't had a flat in a long time so it's not a big concern for me.

As far as towing, I haven't done any yet. Although I only had the truck a day before I put the new treads on I didn't feel that much of a loss in power. The Crew runs great!

Goochy,

If my calculations are right, I think that you will be able to have the 305 as a spare. This is the calculation I've used to compare my Tire sidewall height with the 305:

My sidewall height is:

285 (millimeters) X .75 aspect ratio = 213.75

kkirt1's sidewall height is:

305 X .70 = 213.5

So, kkirts1's tires are wider by 2 Centimeters (not quite an inch) and just slightly shorter.

The overall height is what was in question when trying to get the spare to fit so I think you'd be OK.

The extra width on the 305s would definitely give the truck a more aggresive look. I like the BFGs because I've owned them in the past and didn't want to fork over more than the $160.00 per tire to go to a larger BFG.

Good Luck
