whistling intake

ok guys, hope you can help me out here. i just bought a 2000 f150 4.6 truck that had a k&n fipk kit already installed on it, at VERY slight throttle (1/8 to 1/4throttle) i get a whistling through the intake system. is there anything that will stop the whistling? will the heat shield stop it? its really annoying. if i have to live with it to have the kit i will, but i had the same type of intake on my ranger and it never whistled.

take the plastic cover off the throttle body...look for a RED one inch aluminum block between the throttle plate and the upper intake elbow...whoever had your truck may have installed a POWERAID throttle body spacer...TAKE IT OUT its a gimmick that does not work...oh yeah they make a loud whistle when you start hitting the gas.....

They're absolutely perfect paper weights. Just kidding just couldn't resist. From what I've read about them most people don't believe they work. I thought about purchasing them myself but after some research decided to put the money else where.

Just my 2cents and that's it

The whistling, if from the FIPK, is comming from the Air bi-pass valve, under the " Triton 4.6" cover. Take the Bi pass off and replace with a rubber hose w/ hose clamps, or you can cut off the nipple on the intake end of the bi-pass flange and re attach with 1" thick piece of hosing w/ hose clamp-- If you need a diagram just email K&N and they will send you instructions( free of charge). The whistling is very common on the 4.6's. Mine did it, too.

well it did have the bypass hose on it, but sure enough, the guy had installed a HELIX POWER TOWER spacer on it. it that what is causing my whistling? if that one has the threaded vanes in it, like the other one does, would it stop whistling if i ground them out with my die grinder? i wonder if my truck already has a chip in it now....hmmmmm

I'd pull it out and trash it. It's not worth the effort to work on it. Look for posts by Neal. He recorded a loss in 1/4 mile ET using a spacer. It seem's the 4.2 V-6 does actually benefit from it, according to some members.
