Black Truck,

Seroiusly, you don't have a K&N? Wait till the webmaster hears about this! If you don't want to run a K&N the OEM type is a good one but expensive at the dealer. Fram makes a good one. Purolator is another good name.

Talking

I think that the K&N is the best air filter----simply because it is an "oil" coated filter and it filters out more harmful particles.

Unfortunately Amsoil does not have a foam filter for the F150. So there really is no other brand of air filter for the F150 right?????

So I guess K&N is the way to go! I have it on my truck for over 2 years. I love it!

Thumbs up

Chaulk up another K&N fan!! If you're set on not using a K&N, i would recommend a Purolator.
I know the Fram oil filters are really disliked b/c of crummy construction, durability, and filtering, so I try to stay away from anything that is made by Fram.

Ok, I surrender. Seems like the majority opinion is to go with the K&N. I'll change when it's time to replace the current filter. A little extra power and mileage wouldn't hurt. Thanks for the info.

5-22-01 Then again the opinions are not unanimous.

I only use an OEM filter, but i can get a discount, so they are about 10 dollars each.
I had used a K&N but it gummed up my intake and screwed up my idle (may have been over oiled from the start).
Anyways, the stock one works well for me, my truck is light and has a 5sp, so i don't need 5 hp, if such is true. And I live in a area that tends to be quite dusty for about 7 mos of the year, and in my research, paper filters work better on the dusty conditions.

paper is ok, just change more often!

like Bambino said, be careful of over oiling the K&Ns.

Cool

In flow tests, WIX actually ourflowed the K&N and Accell units. Most of the gain was caused by the reduced air turbulance

Out here on our rural farms with limestone gravel roads, I have seen more than one K&N with a smooth hard cake of limestone dust on it and they can't suck air for squat. Put limestone dust with just a little oil and you get mud.
Remember that a oil / cotton is not as efficient at removing dust as a paper type element when it is clean and new. The K&N relies on dust collected on the filtering media to help increase filtering efficiency. So overall, the paper filter is more efficient at removing particles but more restictive to airflow.
