Living on rice and water to pay for truck?
I am eating better now that mine is paid for. Want a hint, eat brown rice. It has more fiber and keeps you regular......

All you have to do is sign on the dotted line---mine is only $586 per month for 5 years. I have the super duper low FOMOCO interest rate. It is better to fnance at a low rate than pay cash. Remember you can't "take it with you" I work in a power plant and work most holidays and the way I see it that almost makes the payments. When the rest of the world is celebrating Christmas and Thanksgiving I am making a truck payment

I put mine on a credit card.
Then each month when I get another offer in the mail for another credit card, I merely transfer the balance to the new credit card.
Based on the number of credit card offers I get, I'll be able to pull this off for at least another ten years.

Thanks for all the replies.
Seems like allot of people pay cash and save along time.
I’ve been saving for five years to buy my truck. It was just a little frustrating to see all of these people getting expensive trucks.
I’ll be getting my truck in about three weeks, I can’t wait. It’s hard to sleep at night because I’m always thinking about it.
I’ll be putting $6,500 down so my payments should be around $350 a month. Then I’ll be paying around $200 a month for insurance. Add that to the insane amount of money I spend for my apartment and I’m about maxed out for the month. Living in the Boston area is friggin expensive.
Oh well, thanks for shedding some light on my situation. I don’t feel so bad now knowing everyone else is going though the same thing.
The 45-minute commute to and from work in my new truck will make it all worthwhile.
This is the truck I ordered
2001 F-150 XLT Sport 4x4
Black
4.6
5 speed
Regular cab, short bed
Side steps
Bed cover
I currently drive an 86 GMC sierra
Regular cab, long bed
Crate 350 with 4 barrel
3-speed automatic
True dual exhaust, glass packs
It has 120k on it and 20k on the motor
The only options it has is power steering and power breaks
It’s not real pretty but it’s fast as hell!
I’ll be selling it as soon as I get the new one.

Where do you commute to? The wife and I come down I93 to Somerville . . . I drop her at Davis Square and see takes the train into town, she works at the JFK building.
We haven't bought a new car for me since 1978 and the wife's 1994 T-Bird (bought new in october 1993) is paid for, so I traded in my old Cheroke for the F-150, got a good deal at Portsmouth Ford in New Hampshire (a little far for you to drive). Had my overheating AM/FM/CD replaced last Saturday, the wife went along, now she has her eye on a 2002 Exploder (maybe I can talk her into an Expedition)!
Again, welcome, and keep in touch.
Bob

My fiance and I got really lucky, with the fact that she got called out to work wardrobe for Phantom of the Opera. The pay is insane, but we bought a used 98 with 24,000 miles on it. Should've seen the salesmans face when we put $10 grand down as a down payment, lol. The truck is an ext. cab XLT,and only ended up costing about $21 grand, with a sprayed in bedliner thrown in,plus 6/75 ext. warranty. There are some good deals out there, just got to look around a bit.
With all the things I've done to the truck mod wise,it looks nothing like the truck we picked up two years ago

Well, I never got a good education or landed a great job. I had to do it the old fashioned way. I got me a sugar mama. She makes plenty as a lingerie model. Victoria's Secret pays very well. She told me she was planning on sharing me with the other girls. I saw Tyra eyeing me and I told Miss Banks flat out,
"Mustang GT Convertible, if you want some of this."
Man, I work hard for the money!

"I thought salaries were lower." That must be another misconception that yankees teach their children about the south... As long as they believe that and don't want to move down here, I'll support that idea.
Our cost of living is much lower in the South than the north. We also get paid about the same, depending on what you do.
Some of you way overpaid for your trucks it seems! In January i purchased a used '98 F150 Extended cab XLT w/ power everything, Stepside, Red, Gray interior, premium sound (6 disk changer), 5.4L V8, type 3 towing, 2 wheel drive and with only 18,300 miles! They were wanting 21k for it, and i paid 17,500. Never wrecked or anything. It was an older guy who had it, he traded for a 4 door. It's in like new shape
If you know how to deal with these salesman you can get a great price. I told them i would pay 17,500 and nothing more. He called over the sales manager...he showed me the "black book" that said the truck was worth more than that, i said it doesnt matter, i only have 17,500 to spend (white lie
), and thats all i'm spending. He then said "if i can give you this truck for 17,600 would you take it?" I said "no based on principle, i will only pay 17,500". He said "i cant do it". So i got up and walked out the door. About the time my key went into the door of my car, he came running out and said "Son, it's your lucky day, i just called the general manager and he'll give it to you for your price." What an obvious bunch of BS, but if you stick to your guns, you will get what you want (Within reason). Dont let them bully you, there are hundreds of car lots, one of them will give it to you at your price.

Kemtooler-
Trust me, I will never leave the Northeast. I like different seasons, not just hot.
But thanks for being so nice, I guess the old Southern hospitality isn't dead yet.
Oh by the way........ We won
No offense to everyone else in the South. I just didn't like the Kemtooler's attitude.

Lately It's not the payments it's the gas. I pedal to work which does cost me more of that high fiber brown rice stuff but saves on killer short trip mileage and maint. Once the Blu-Ox is paid for and I can buy a cheap POS for winter work travel I'll Leave the truck on the farm for pullin and carryin when I ned it (maybe playin to)

My 99' F150 4.6L, Auto Trans, Ext Cab, 4 X 2 XLT was a cool $20,400 out the door with a full tank. 60 mo. @ a great rate made it affordable to me. I take EXCELLENT care of it and expect it to carry me around a long time.
The South rules. I've lived and travel regularly up North. I always enjoy coming home! ITS A MATTER OF PREFERENCE on where you live. I do enjoy the "southern myths" because it keeps unwanted folks away. Its just right for me !

I didn't mean to stir the melting pot with my yankee post. It just seems odd to me that y'all (or should I say you guys) don't know there is a fully functioning, wealthy nation outside of your beloved four season, war-winning states. No hard feelings, okay?
