Work at a dealership and pay only 22 grand for that 30 grand truck you are talking about, get yourself a gun, go hunting and enjoy the truck, don't live off of rice and water, live off of the land.
I have been reading all of the owners letters hear at F150 online and have noticed that the majority of the owners have trucks that are in the $26,000-$33,000 price range.
My question is this, how the hell can all of these people afford to pay 30 grand for a pick-up truck? It seems most of the people are from the South and Midwest. I thought salaries in these areas were much lower than the Northeast where I am from.
I make decent money but could never afford a $30,000 truck. Are you guys leasing or something?
Do you live on rice and water?
How do you do it?

Around here (Chicago) 100K mile 97's are fairly common. I've seen several 100K, 97,XLT,4x4's for around $10,000 dollars. I bought my truck ( loaded 97 XLT S/C LWB 2 WD )2 years ago for $8200 with 164,000 miles. I've only had one real problem (diff. bearings). I, like 2001 F-150 SPORT, live in the rust belt. My truck has typical rust on the tailgate, doors, and frame . It would break my heart to spend $25,000 to have a vehicle rust so quickly. If you can't swing or don't want to spend $20,000 to $30,000, there are good deals on high mileage trucks out there. You can't tell most of these high mileage trucks from 30,000-40,000 mile examples. These trucks are very durable. With minimum expense and a little mechanical ability, you will be able to keep them going for a long time.

Hey Sport,
Spent my life working part time, driving
$300 used cars and learned how to fix just about anything. After finally finishing school and earning a PhD and good paying job, I decided I would get what I want now that I can afford it. Didn't spare much either, that way I can't regret not getting anything.
I am actually pretty happy about it, because the Supercrews were available. It would've sucked to get a Supercab and then have the Screws arrive.
Paid $300 over invoice, about $31K total.
Credit Union finance which covers tax tags and any other costs you want to put in = NO MONEY DOWN.

Purchased new 99 financed through credit union at a good rate. It is my very first new truck, and it took me to age 30 to do it. I have a good job, and I work my @ss off. It also helps to have a very understanding wife with a good job as well. It's not easy, but do-able.

Spent 21 yrs. in the Army, could never afford a nice vehicle. After I retired they keep sending me money, how stupid is that. Anyway with the money I get for compensation it makes a house and pickup payment.
As much as I love Ford trucks, ain't no way I'm spending 30 grand for a truck. Unless I had a farm, and needed a dually F350. I can't even justify spending it on a Lightning. If I had that kind of bread, I'm driving a BMW. My '99 F150 extended cab sport cost 21k out the door.
What about cat food?
In all seriousness though I worked for every red cent to buy my truck. I drive alot and my transportation is nearly like my office so I wanted something nice. With Tax I paid right at 30k for my truck and I dont regret it one bit. Sure I could have paid cash for my truck but with the interest rate I got I would have been nuts to take it out of my portfolio when its gaining so well. So thats my story. Work Hard and Play Harder!!
