amsoil
I just signed up for a free six month preferred membership with amsoil to purchase amsoil products at wholesale prices. What is people's experience with amsoil. I currently use Mobil 1 but the specs for the amsoil look much better than Mobils or any of the other synthetic manufacturers for that matter. Will I notice any difference from going to Amsoil from Mobil 1? Should I just stick with Mobil 1? Any input would be appretiated.
I doubt that you'll notice any difference in performance.
I recently switched from normal Havoline 5w-30 to Amsoils full synthetic 5w-30. To be honest, I've not experienced any 'increase' in power or MPG's, but really wasn't expecting to. My reasons for going to Amsoil synthetic is for the higher lubrication qualities as well as extended drain intervals.. Now I can change the oil once a year (because I drive it way less than 25k miles a year), while of course changing the filter every 3k miles, because I'm sticking with the Motorcraft filter.

If you are not interested in the extended drain capabilities stick with the xl7500 oil. This is the cheapest that compares to Mobil 1. Though with Amsoil you will get even less wear and a higher additve package.
If you really want the best performace go for the Series 2000 0w30 This oil has a very robust Additive package and a higher ester content (which is a more expensive synthetic base stock) that is able to handle higher pressures and more heat. That is why it takes the place of all 5w30 and 10w30 motor oil.
Also the 0w30 is recommended for 35,000 miles or 1 year drain interval, which exceeds the original 5w30 by 10,000 miles.
You will get faster oil circulation and better hot and cold protection with the 0w30.
I use it down here in El Paso with great results.

I swear by Amsoil. A little pricey compared to readily available synthetics, but provides a lot more protection. Since I started using Amsoil, my vehicles aren't....he hee he! In other words, I am not going through any oil between 5k mile change intervals like I was with conventionals and even Mobil1. I agree with MSparks. Amsoil was first in the synthetic business for automobiles and remains the best in the business IMHO.
I use the 5w30 and Amsoil filter in my 2001. No mpg improvment but changed at 3,500k. Can't say as to HP gain or seat of the pants. I have a hard time believing anyone can feel the HP. I have noticed a difference in the temp gauge. Although not a precise gauge it is about 20 to 30 degrees (angle of gauge) less with Amsoil then conventional.
I run the 10w30, and 75/90 gear lube in the wifes Land Rover (full time 4x4). Changed with 60k on it. Better mph by about 1.2 over the last 12k. It also idles smoother and experianced a slight temp gauge drop.
I love the products. The household products are awsome as well. Try the Metal Protector!

I'm concerned about my Amsoil. I have approx 11K on my 5W30. I changed the filters every 5K. I just changed filters and topped-off with 0W30 series 2000. I started with the Amsoil filter, then switched to Mobil1 filters. The oil that came out with the filter change looked like it needs changing. Looks are deceiving! But I'm concerned because I'm towing my 5300 lb boat this weekend. For about 3 hours of highway driving. I felt better about doing the filter change, and figured the 1 QT of 0W30 would give me an additive boost. I sure hope I'm not doing any damage! The oil looks very dark brown but still feels pretty viscous. Not near what it was new, but its no where near watery or black.
I have an analysis kit on the way. But that won't help me this weekend.
Is it POSSIBLE that the Amsoil is already in a poor state after only 11K?
That 11K has about 100 miles of beach driving and the rest 50% highway 50% suburban.

Rand,
Take it easy brother!!! Is is possible that the Amsoil's additive package might be beginning to show signs of wear after 11,000 miles. However, if you started with a relatively clean engine to begin with (either low miles, or previously ran a quality engine oil) than you've got nothing to worry about.
Amsoil says to change the oil out when the TBN gets below 2, keep in mind that it starts out at over 11 and most over-the-shelf oils are lucky to have a TBN of 4 much less 11.
You should be fine, I have more confidence in running 'worn-out' Amsoil than I would running 'brand-new' off-the-shelf.

Why the filter switch to Mobile 1? I know its a good filter (use on my wifes), any other reason?
I have noticed the 5w30 gets darker quicker than the 10w30 or heavier grades! It is so thin I beleive it just looks that way. The gear oil allways look ok!

Rand, You had 5-30W in your truck but topped it off with 0-30W. I thought this was a no-no. Mixing different weights of oil. Am I wrong. Never knew what it was supposed to do, but was just told not to do it? Any clues anyone?

I am sure the long drain intervals are perfectly fine, but I am too **** to wait that long. I won't go longer than 6k with any Amsoil. It is most likely just my quirkiness, but hey, its my money to waste, right??
First off, I started using Amsoil in my NEW 5.4 FQR motor with 1K on the motor. So its clean.
I went from the Amsoil filter to the Mobil1 because of the slight difference in quality and the EASE to find the Mobil1. Sure Amsoil will send you one to your door, but for $10 a pop plus shipping.... THATS AN EXPENSIVE FILTER! Over-priced in my eyes!
RandyW, you have given me new found confidence. I appreciate that!
digodell, I ABSOLUTELY will post my results from my analysis. I might even scan it if I get a chance. Secondly, I might even do an analysis on my Honda CR-V which I run Mobil1 and change it every 5K. Nice to compare the two, huh?
rocketir, using my common sense, I don't think topping off with 0W30 will hurt anything at all. If you look at all the info about the 0W30 vs the 5W30, they are VERY close in all aspects. However, the Series 2000 0W30 has a more robust additive package! Lastly, 0W30 is the better of the 2 in my engine. In other words, Ford says to use 5W30. A 0W30 is ok too becuase the only difference is 0W30's ability to flow and reach critical part faster than the 5W30. Going from a 5 to a 10 would not be advisable over long periods.

2000F150Fun:
How much oil were you burning with conventional oils and mobil 1? I burn a quart (conventional or synthetic)every 1700 miles. The only oil I have tried so far that doesn't burn in my truck is Syntec 5W50, but I don't like using that "heavy" of an oil. I'm interested in your experience. Thanks

I am on pins and needles waiting for your results. A scan of the test would be much appreciated.
Where have you found the Mobile 1 filter for under $10. I use one in my wives Land Rover because there is no Amsoil filter availible. The cheepest I can find is about 10.49 at Autozone. I do agree the Amsoil is a little pricey! So are all their products. You should be able to drink the stuff after using it, Hmmmm not a bad idea I think I'll poor a glass of 5w30 on the rocks. Maby it would keep my wife regular? All kinds of new uses! I should market for Amsoil.

okay amsoil guys.
How much is the ATF fluid?
What's the drain interval?
Just checking specs at this point. My buddy makes this all-syn stuff that's $11/qt. just wondering how much more or less the amsoil is.

The ATF goes for $7.35 a quart Retail. As listed on the Amsoil.com store,
AMSOIL ATF is formulated for extended drain intervals. Transmissions usually operate under severe service conditions. They
are subjected to extensive idling, frequent short trips, cold temperature driving, sustained hot weather driving or trailer towing. If a
conventional transmission fluid is used, it would have to be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. AMSOIL ATF can last up to
three times longer than conventional fluids last.
Now the wholesale prices are cheaper but you have to email me for those
