Glad I could help Rand, always looking to be useful...

I too would be glad to see your numbers from your recent oil analysis, especially on starting from a nice clean engine!!

When I order my Amsoil filters, I usually order 5-6 at a time so that I only have the $10 hit at a time. Same thing for the Baldwins that I order. Makes it a bit easier to handle when you're ordering in bulk.

DFolk88:

I havnt had any oil usage between oil changes with this truck because I changed the oil at 500 miles to Amsoil 5W30 and have kept with that. Not a drop used in 5k mile changes.

Previous truck was a 98 with 4.6l and I started off with Motorcraft 5W30 conventional using about a 3/4qt - 1qt between 5k changes. Then went to Mobil1 5W30 and used about 1/2 qt between 5k changes. Finally switched to Amsoil 5W30 at about 38k miles and had no oil usage between 5k changes.

I think your oil consumption is abnormal, even for conventional oil. I would have it checked out. Depending on the oil used, 1/2 qt in 3k miles is considered to be normal. 1 qt in 1,700 miles is way too much for any oil.

2000F150fun,

Ford will not look at my oil usage problem until I use more than 1 quart every 900 miles! At 1700 miles I have a long way to go. It's disgusting that an automobile needs to use that much oil before they think it is alarming.

I would push the issue. Call Ford Customer Service and open a complaint if you have to. Try a different dealership first though.

Good luck. A qt every 900 miles??? What a joke! Rear main seal leaks don't leak that much until they are almost fully blown!
