I just dusted all the furniture in the living room and dining room!
Check that one off my "Honey-Do" list. ;D

Black and Tan,

I can verify it too. Have several kills of pre-99 Z71s and a 97 Yukon (same guy twice!).

Now I don't know for sure if all the Z71s were 350s or 305s but you see very few that are not 350s. Now I know a Yukon is a 350......

Now the 1999/2000 Z71s are a different story for me.....

So what's the big surprise? Most know the Ford takes the cake [most] of the time. My kills are taking on the LD 3/4 ton Chevs with 7.4's. I've done several, including my brother-in-laws and it's just old hat now. (I know my B-I-L only has 3.73 gears and I have 4.30's so that helps as well). But still like to keep the compentition hopping.

Good original post Nickster!

I always just wonder if the other fellows know they were racing...

Dustoff -
I'm not speaking for Pastmaster, but what is wrong with being skeptical about what you read on the internet? Past has personal experience with similar vehicles, are you 'questioning' his integrity?

Things I've read on this board that I am skeptical of:

A chip will add up to 4 mpg (I gained 1 mpg)

A tonneau cover will add 3 mpg

A new air filter element alone (not the FIPK or Airraid, just the element)will add 1 mpg and a noticeable performance increase (mine did neither)

New shocks will make my F150 ride like a luxury car

The same shocks will make my truck handle like a race car (mine were a subtle improvment)

F150's with approximatley 20 pounds per horsepower will consistently outperform other vehicles with 17 - 18 pounds per horsepower.

Some 5.4s get 20 mpg regularly

A V6 can get 28+ mpg on the highway

There is a special 235 hp version of the 4.6 in some trucks

Shoot, I'm skeptical if Tom Brokaw tells me something on the nightly news - Am I supposed to believe everything I read on this board?

Nickster 02-23-2000 09:41 PM

My truck had 220hp from the factory! Even with the mods I did, it didn't make a tremendous difference. But I still think if I were bone stock I would've still beat him. By the way he has 3:73's, ex-cab, bolt-on exhaust. I think that's about it. And for the record, I took the chip out of mine so that's one less mod. for the Ford.

V6 28 MPG (in a small japanise car - maybe), sorry for laughing. I'm very skeptical too.
for the record my V6 gets 22MPG with 3.08 gears (maximum-babying & speed limit only).

Any of you guys raced with a turbo firefly...
these guys are telling that they can beat corvettes??? I raced with one once in my ZX2, I won but he said he is new with manual transmissions and if he had a little more experience he would have kicked my butt???

???? thanks

Heheheh... Saw that you beat a 1993 F-150 with a 302 and had to laugh...

My '91 with the 302 gets about 13 seconds for a 0-60 run... We're not dealing with very strong engines here, folks... The '98 F-150 with a V-6 that I traded for this older truck made 0-60 in 12 seconds, chipped... (but didn't tow as well!)

I'm not trying to start a war with anyone. But Some of this stuff is TOO unbelieveable. I know these engines too well, I know what they can and can't do. I believe that in some cases it can be beat, but my dad has a 98 chevy, and I have driven SEVERAL 4.6L and a 99 5.4L and a 2k 4.6L. I don't see a 4.6L beating a 350 vortec. I just don't see it myself. I don't have any beef with anyone here. I really enjoy this site. "B"ut some of this seems almost unbelieveable. I know the 302 like the back of my hand. It is a great engine, compariable to the 4.6L. I haven't been impressed with the 4.6L or the new Vortec engines for that matter. But you can't beat a Built Pushrod, even if it is "antiqued". I've been to alot of drag races, and have helped build at least 6 engines. I don't understand how 15-20hp can make 3 car lenths. I have no doubt the Tritons are good engines. But they aren't perfect. I wouldn't say that the Tritons are the fastest truck on the road, I've seen alot of built trucks that will beat any trition. I've just learned over the years, not to believe everything you hear.

I am wrong, I need to keep my comments to myself. Sorry to anyone I offended.

dirt bike dave 02-23-2000 11:56 PM

Mike Lewis - Are you questioning the integrity of people on this board? (just kidding)

Based on what other people have posted, it is impossible for an F150 with a chip to do such a slow (12 second) 0-60.

After all, it has been clearly established that a 5.4 will do a 0-60 in 7.7 seconds, and that a Supercab 4.6 auto is just a little behind at 8.3 seconds.

With a chip, your 4.2 made as much or more power than a stock 4.6L. Therefore, with a 5 speed and regular cab, a V6 with chip would surely be faster than a 4.6 SC auto - probably about an 8.0 second 0-60, right?

Just add a tonneau cover and a K&N, and you will get 25 mpg.

Going back to what Dustoff commented. I compare what people on here say and what people say "in the real world". I know people who own both Fords and Chevy's. I'm somewhere in the middle. I talk to people who are diehard Ford fans and people who are die hard chevy people. Of course they are going to say theres is the fastest. My truck is fairly modified. I figured around 260hp. That means I should be able to keep up with a 5.4L, but possibly beating one. Does this mean that I'll beat a stock 4.6L by 3 car lengths? I doubt that. More like 1/2 to 3/4's the length of my truck. I have only raced 3 vehiles with my 93. A 97 flareside 4.6L, a 92 chevy(wouldn't call it a race) and a 87 RX7. the RX7 beat me by 3/4's of its length. All my friends race and none of them have ever said or actually beated or been beat, by an entire car length. Or more. I won't question anybody's "integrity" anymore. I'll just choose to believe, what I feel is lagitament. Don't tell me that someof you guys haven't stretched the trut a bit. I know I have.

I do believe that a 4.2L with a tonneau and a filter will get 25mpg.
12 sec does seem a bit low with a chipped 4.2L. It should be a lot quicker than your stock 302. It's a diffferent class and weighs considerably less.I don't know anyone personally who has a 4.2L. So Im just assuming what other people say on here.

I've got to stop visiting this board so often, because I'm really beginning to question Ford's quality control.

Dustoff's 5.4 is the fastest truck besides a Lightning, but Psycho (see General Discussion) has a new 5.4 which is 0.9 to 1 second slower in the 1/4 mile than his wife's Chevy 5.3. Dustoff would probably beat Psycho by about 1.5 seconds in the quarter.

Fast's 4.6 SC auto will do an 8.3 second 0-60, but another member with the same truck and carrying some extra weight can barely keep up with an Excursion (0-60 in 10.1 to 10.9 according to the magazines).

Based on what I read from the members, Fords of any given model vary in power by about 25%. Next time I buy one, what is the secret to getting a Fast one?

I guess my V6 didn't get any of the magic dust that some Fords get, and probably puts out close to the rated hp. I would guess slighlty under 11 seconds 0-60 stock and around 10 seconds with the better shifting and increased power of the Superchip (which increases my hp to 226 per superchips).

I've driven four different Fords with a 4.6L engine, and one of my friends has an '97 SC 4.6 auto w/3.55 gears. If his truck can get to 60 in under 9 seconds and through the 1/4 in under 17 seconds I would be shocked.

BTW at 60 mph, a car travels 88 feet in one second. That is over 4 lengths of an F150.

This is starting to sound like one of those "My dad can beat up your dad" type of matches.

When I say I beat a 302 f150 by 1 and 1/2 truck lengths, I did. Why would I lie? To show off? Nope.

Anyways, the 302 was started back in 77', correct? Now look at all this time they had to perfect it. Give the 4.6l & 5.4l some time, and they'll be perfected just like the old pushrods were.

IzzyEddy 02-24-2000 01:51 PM

Hey Neal, been away for a few days. I live on the East side, just off of Lauzon Road, about a block south of Wyandotte. Been looking for your truck around but haven't run into it yet !! I'll keep on looking.

TOPIC: Any of you guys live close enough to meet at a drag course and put it to the test ???? The only way to get correct facts and figures on these trucks is let the computers track it at the track.

Neal, another thing, who did your exhaust work on the truck? Was thinking about true duels on my '94 but called Speedy downtown and they gave me a cost of around $750 for 2 new cats, and rest of exhaust.
