Not that this is a good comparison, but I thought after wading through 3 pages of 75% *stuff* I'd throw in some 0-60's on something that shouldn't be concerned with 0-60's. The fact is, even a Yugo has a 0-60. It may be 2 minutes and 16 seconds, but that's how long it took for it to go from 0 to 60MPH.

My expy in about 4 0-60's, not at a track, ran 2 8.34's and one 8.2ish I think and one really bad launch at 8.7 something. See the mods below. No hot rod and I don't race but I have fun driving, and it tows my latest mod great.

I actually DID consider buying a "L" as a toy and the fact that it WOULD have a 0-60 that would be of interest, but for some stupid reason, I thought I needed to spend even more money so I could tow something big. Now IT doesn't have a 0-60 because it won't quite reach 60. But it sure is relaxing being anchored out on the lake!

Dennis--This mustang is a dream, I am 4th owner, I have the original 390/c6...Its lowered(on the ground), shelby upper arm relocation, NRS, tubular a-arms,centerlines, boxed in lower arms with lockout kits, etc. It handles like its on rails, Waxes most fox bodies(like I was trying to tell Matt)..That Cleveland was the best engine from Ford-IMHO...I want to pull it and go through it...It autocrosses like a dream....Cleveland is a Nascar engine that they had to put 5000 on the street so they could make it legal in nascar....Its a race engine detuned into a street car..2.19 intakes (4-barrel heads)..I love this car...The 69's although Identical to the 70's did not come from the factory with the cleveland's, I am lucky that the towers are not hacked up..its tight in there..but not like it would be with the 390 or 428 or even worst the BOSS 429...I still say its a piece of cake to change the plugs compared to the 5.4.. I bet this could twist the frame..I want to put the T-56 in there..Maybe even slip a t-bird independent diff in the rear..

Matt--yes I am older then you and wiser too...thats why i say that you just talk the talk....I can cut through that and see that you really are not that hands on...Bolt on at best...

The moral of this story is to be a little bit more foregiving to the newbies....they are not as experienced as you think you are...

You are only as old as your mind wants you to be ...I have the experience and can work circles around you...I built the house I live in and manage 5 acres...I build cars and bikes for a hobby...
My point is I am old enough to see through your stuff and you need to catch up because some of the others see it as this as well.

Be nice or you are going to play by yourself...

0-60...Yea Baby!!

I like this subject cause that's where my mod's work best. Especially the 4.10LS GEAR! I dunno exact times but I'd guess High 6's on a good cool brisk day. I know I regularly beat the CR#P out of little ricers off the line and beat a 99' or newer GT Mustang last weekend on three separte runs. Granted he was catching up to me big time (and had two hefty riders with em), and would have passed me in the 80's mph range prolly but we had to shut it down for the next light. If you're looking to improve you're 0-60 times check through the posts 02XLT that's where I got a lot of good info, including the fan mod from Matt90GT.

02XLT Keeps those eyes open on Westheimer!

Also, for somebody who doesn't see the need for 0-60 times in trucks, he sure knows how to quote the 0-60 times from magazines. I wonder if he writes letters to the editor for them to stop posting those times since he doesn't see the need for them.
That is actually my son. He rocks!

For the 0-60 findings, I am just showing you that if you look you can find your own answer. It was not hard. www.caranddriver.com , then search and type in "F150" and viola! Oh, and the 4x4 4.6 what was the time? 10.6 something? hrm, I think I mentioned 10-12 seconds. Wow, how was I so right?

Maybe you are on a 28.8 dialup, but most all of us are adults here and don't need hands held to find something. The internet is like a card catalog at a library. I guess some of us know how to use it as others stumble around with it clueless.

When you are talking stock foxbodies, cool. you must have heard of a Griggs? their shop is on the track at Sears Point. Serious suspension parts. Boxed stock arms with a solid axle does nothing to keep the axle located laterally in the car. You need a device like a PHB or Watts link to do that. Otherwise you will be wagging your rear end like a dog all over! If you want to bring that debate on, see you at cc.com

All I can say is you would not "wax" this fox body.

Matt--yes I am older then you and wiser too...thats why i say that you just talk the talk....I can cut through that and see that you really are not that hands on...Bolt on at best...
hrm, balancing, blue printing, rebuilding, shaving pistons, porting heads, intakes, grinding cams. That is all bolt on stuff now isn't it? I am choosing to go bolt on only with the 5L in the mustang right now as it runs good and is fun. It has plenty of power and at 28mpg it is economical. I have built the car to my goals and that is what is important to me. 300hp, good gas mileage, great brakes and great handling. I am not worried about having the fastest car, the loudest fart tip, the tallest truck out there. I have the stang built the way I like it, same with the truck.

Now you are making assumptions randomly and they are all wrong about me, well most of them. You know nothing about me besides I pissed in your aging cheerios and I have a mustang, truck, dirtbike and a son.

you know, personally there needs to be more reality than holding hands in the F150 online community. As said in my previous post tonight, you can find that info out on your own without asking about it. There is not a lot of tech or use for 0-60 in a truck as that is not the primary purpose. It may judge how soon a semi runs over you when you merge into a highway, but in reality anything over 6 seconds is nothing to even worry about IMHO. We know it is slow and not the car/trucks purpose in life.

If you dont like me, that is fine. Just dont make wrong assumptions about me that have no basis cause you are just throwing pie on yourself and I will exploit you on it.

You are only as old as your mind wants you to be ...I have the experience and can work circles around you...I built the house I live in and manage 5 acres...I build cars and bikes for a hobby...

Your old. I am younger than you. YOu have never seen my work, so how can you critisize it? Again, you know nothing about me, my abilities or work. Do I make you jealous that I am 27, own my own home, my mustang is paid for, I have 3 dirt bikes, a boat, a F150, a great family and have a lot of fun in life? What is your point? I ride, race and build cars and bikes for a hobby also. We are not that different beyond age.

YOu know nothing about me. You just dont like me pointing out reality to people. The f150 is not a speed burner, the lightning is.

Be nice or you are going to play by yourself...
Do you think I am worried about that? About the last thing on my mind. If you dont want my advice, dont read it. Pretty simple, skip it. But I do know a lot of tech knowledge that others do not know/share/post on the boards, so it is really your loss. I dont see a lot of people putting down HARD facts and numbers about modifications. What I see is a lot of people post a question but have a premade answer to their question. If they do not hear what they like, it is time to bicker about it how that person does not know what they are talking about, that I am old enough to see through your stuff and you need to catch up because some of the others see it as this as well. Don't critisize it if you have not done it (more pointing to all the BS about the previous electric fan post).

Let this thread die

Hi all lets let this thread die. Matt came on strong at first...but he is cool.

LaunchinLiteLariat--

I'd look for you on Westheimer, but you would have to be crazy to race on that road. LOL I will keep my eyes peeled for you. I'll give you a run in mt mustang. Should be a bit harder than the new stock GT's I am putting down a bit more torque and I have shorter gears.

Matt cool? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt, have you ever driven a '69 or '70 Mustang (Cougar in my case) with the engines we're talking about? Straight line acceleration in stock configuration is stunning. Handling leaves a lot to be desired, especially back then when the best tires available were Goodyear Polyglass tires. Could have gotten Michelins later on, but nobody sold them in my town. Besides, the Goodyear dealer was owned by a close family friend and all I had to do was sign for repairs, alignments, and new tires. Yeah, I was majorly spoiled when I was in school. All that changed when I graduated from college.

My stock '70 Cougar ran 0-60 in the low 7s and the 1/4 in the low 14s. After a bit of tweaking (timing) and wider tires, we got the 0-60 times below 7 and the 1/4 to 14 flat. That was still with the stock engine parts and exhaust. Then, I went off to college and there went any plans for mods. By the time I was a sophomore and could finally have my car, Mom had fallen in love with the Cougar and bought me a used car instead... GRRRR!!! Since they gave me the Cougar when I was 15 and it was registered in their name, I never argued about it. I always thought I'd end up with it eventually. A couple of years after grad school, my Mom donated the car to her church because they hired a new associate pastor and needed a car for him. Sigh....

I had the speedometer on that car pegged so many times (120+ and there was still more power on tap to go faster, but I was afraid the needle would get stuck and I'd have a hard time explaining that to my parents, LOL). I'm amazed that I'm still here. Still don't know why those fiberglass belted tires never blew out. God sure protected this particular teenaged idiot.

These days, I save the need for speed for on the water and in the air...

Yaaawwwwwwwwwwwwn!

I can't believe I read this whole post.

Matt90GT, you wouldn't happen to be related to Howard Stern would you? Just asking.

Well everyone, I happen to love bolt on equipment and if any of you happen through my neck of the woods I would love to show you what a truck can do. I would show you times if I had any but I don't. I can say light to light I have beaten several of the new V8 mustangs, and that's enough to make me happy.

The lights average between 1/8 and 1/4 mile.

Dennis, I built a 69 camaro with 425hp NA. 550 on the bottle. Quarter mile at 120mph in 12 seconds, high 11s. Top speed was 165. So yeah I have had old cars. The camaro was setup with coilovers on all corners, 245 front, tubbed out back with 315s. I sold to a guy that uses it for Vintage SCCA racing back in 92.

For the old stangs and such, they were good in their time, but really are not faster than a stock new Mustang GT. Sure the tires sucked a big a$$, but that is technology for you.

Thumbs up

Ok, Ok, I heard something that got my attention! Westheimer

Holy cow. I was cruising that when it was only 3 lanes each way and we DID race. Back when Gessner was as far west as you would go cruising. Past there was the country.

Ah, the good old days. It was only about 20 years ago but, WHAT, 20 friggin years? Damn I really am getting old. Oh ya, it was long enough ago we also cruised and raced on Long Point. Ya, like that happens today

2 months to build. had a tubular frame , sheetmetal floor and all. Any other details you want to know?

If you do not believe me, you can ask CJ or Jarrod my age, if I own a house, truck, mustang, boat, bikes, if I am married, if I exist, if I am real.

You old farts are so ignorant! Time to hit the rest home!

Ahh... No big deal. Us "old farts" age like fine wine and are worth a lot more than Matt's cheap whine.
