I found somethin really WEIRD!!!

I changed the tranny fluid today and in the bottom of the pan I found a little plunger thing. It is a half ball that is hollow on the ball side and has a stem about 1 1/2in long on the flat side, dia. of the stem is about 1/8in and dia. of the ball is about 3/4in. Also there is a o-ring on the circunference of the ball just before it is cutoff to flat. It is made of a tannish plastic.
Any idea what the heck this is and if it is part of the tranny or if it was dropped in during production. Very bizarre! The thing shows no wear at all on it or the o-ring.

Oh! Now you went and did it!!!! LOL.

I don't know if it's the same thing with your year, but I know with the '99 and previous trannies, that little plastic thing is in all the trannies and it was in the transmission during manufacturing. I think it keeps dirt out of the tranny before the dip stick tube is installed at the assembly plant just before it's installed into the truck. When the put the dipstick tube in, it pops that seal into the bottom of the tranny.

In other words, just throw it away and don't give it a second thought.

Dennis is right it should just be the filler plug Ford used in production. Not a big deal but, I can see where someone that doesn't know about it would freak.

I found that plastic/nylon thingy when I did my TransGo Shift Kit install. Foprgot that I had read about it so I called TransGo Tech Support and embarrassed myself by asking them where it should go. We both had a good laugh on me.

Oh NO - DON'T THROW IT AWAY!.......

I drilled a small hole in mine and ItZ hanging from my mirrior.

If you only realized the extensive research and developement it took to engineer, design and mass produce that LoLLY PoP. The hundreds of hours it was tested to withstand ItZ only purpose in life. To keep the person on the assemble line free from getting a bath in trans oil while positioning the trans in place.

GeeZ have a HEART would YA!.............To be tossed aside like a SPARE part.

I noticed you added the super chip. I have the same exact truck but mine is stock (only 3 weeks old) except for the K&N filter.
I was woundering what you thought of the super chip?
Was there that much of an increase in power?

DJB, go with the Borla you will not regret that. My verdict is not yet in on the superchip. It will give you a very noticable stiffer shift but since I had put the FIPK and the Borla system on first other then the shift I'm not convinced. I also recently timed the difference between the two octane settings on the flip chip and found very little difference. I compared times after 200 miles on each setting and making sure the fuel was very high percentage of that octane. I brought this up with Mike and he gave me instructions that basically took away what changes the computer will make as you drive. It seems they only want to compare it when you first dump the memory and have not allowed the factory computer to make its adjustments.
