Exclamation Is this a 2V or 3V engine?

I am purchasing a 2010 F-150 SXT next week. While doing some research, I noticed that there are two possible engine versions (according to NADA) for this model: a 2V and 3V. I'm no engine guy, so I am really not sure how I can tell which it is.

Could you guys help determine which it is? Also, what is the difference between the 2V and 3V? Are there power and performance differences?

VIN: 1FTEX1EW9AFB66665

EDIT: If you are trying to determine whether or not your F150 is a 2V or a 3V, here are some methods of finding out:

1. If the 8th character in your VIN is an "W", you have a 2V and if it's an "8", you have a 3V.

2. Open this link (http://services.forddirect.fordvehic...EX1EW9AFB66665) and replace the "vin=1FTEX1EW9AFB66665" portion with your VIN and then hit enter.

Looks like a 4.6 2V

Post VIN to confirm

Yep - significant power difference between a 4.6 2V and a 4.6 3V

That VIN does come up as a 4.6 2V. I didn't even realize you could still get a 4.6 2V as late as 2010.

That's a bit annoying, because the dealership just emailed me and told me that it's a 3V. So I'm assuming they're either telling me what I want to hear or they just don't know and guessed.

2V 4.6s are essentially what are in all the Crown Vics that last 500k miles and refuse to die. Most reliable V8 made in the last 20 years as far as I'm concerned. All 4.6s are slow in these big trucks, so I'd rather have the more reliable of the two. I'd be happy to hear that.

I don't think I will be using the truck in situations where I would need the additional power, so I have no complaints about it being a 2V. The thing that annoys me is the dealer providing misinformation; but then again, it is a dealer we're talking about.

Ahh, I thought you were upset because you were hoping for a 3V. But yeah, most people that work at dealerships do whatever is quickest as far as supplying info. I, on the other hand, actually look things up for people and make sure that what I'm telling them is accurate. Not simply running the VIN, which takes 2 seconds, is such a disservice to customers and makes no sense.

The good thing is that the 2V has a great reliability record, if it received proper maintenance.

2010 was the last year of the 4.6 2V in the F-150. It was the base engine (V-6 was dropped in 2009) and has a 4 speed tranny. The 4.6 3V and 5.4 have the 6 speed. 2011 brought all new engines and 6 speed across the board.

The last year for the 4.6 2V in anything is 2014 - the E-van.

All 4.6s are slow in these big trucks
"Slow" is up to individual interpretation. The 4.6 3V was actually pretty peppy, the 6 speed helps a lot.

I mean slow in terms of being inferior to the 5.4. Slower than a 4 banger Civic from the early 2000s? Nah.
