Break-in period suggestions after "L" swap

I am currently in the process of doing the "L" swap on my truck and would like to hear suggestions on break-in periods.

I am re-ringing with new .020 pistons, new rod and main bearings, head and decks squared and milled.

My question is how should I do the break-in if I'm unable to drive my truck after stuffing in the 5.4? I will be using my 4.6 ECM and harness, and have read that it should start and run (barring any mechanical or electrical issues) but should not be driven. After I get it started, I will tow it to my tune shop for dyno time. My dyno guy said he would load up a generic 5.4 tune into my SCT for the inital start, but that sounded kinda sketchy.

I would hate to get this all finished and have to do dyno pulls during the break-in.

I'm also rebuilding the tranny.

This should be in a different forum on this site obviously, - but you plan ahead and get a starter tune. Just a basic "PCM" tune, that will get it close or close enough.

It's in the V8, that is ok. I suppose it could have gone in the Lighning as just as well.

This one, - https://www.f150online.com/forums/ch...rogramming-34/

Since that's what your question has to do with. I mean, you already know about tuning according to your post. Your going to need a starter tune and program for break in. There's a forum geared specifically for that IMO. That's where I'd go anyway.

I guess there going to leave you engines, sorry. Maybe some folks will see it and come over here and give you a hand. Or you could go over there and search the topic specifically in that forum. That search bar is on the right once you get there. Under forum tools.

Good Luck

BTW, as it was already mentioned, the lightning forum isn't a bad idea as well,-

I doubt you'll find much in this one here tho. You can try.

EDIT: Just call your tuner and tell them what's up. They'll know what to do. They may have you just bring the PCM in and give you a break in tune of sorts. You shouldn't have to tow it in.

No problem. Sounds like you have allot invested , or just on it's way lol. The speed shop and/or tuner you work with should be able to answer any questions you have about the tune, break in and swap.
