5.4 triton reliable?
Just bought a 02 150,5.4 triton 2 valve,116,000 on it.How reliable is this engine over 100,000 miles?.I had no previous mantenance records,so I started from scratch,oil,tune-up,radiator flush, trans.flush, also going to change axle fluids all around, change PCV also.
I had the 5,4 Triton in my 98 F-150 with well over that on it. Never had any issues at all with the engine other than some coil over plug failures. The engine was rock...the body, manifold and suspension gave out before the engine showed any signs. Up here in Western NY the snow salt eats away at these things. Got my new F-150 undercoated and hope this helps. Good luck!
You never know with a used car but there are many who have many time that mileage with no major issues. The 97 E350 van I had had over 250k on it and it was one of the most reliable vehicles i've ever owned my truck is getting close to 150 and other then self inflicted damage it has been fantastic.
The 5.4-2v is reliable as any Toyota engine!

I am getting conflicting answers on radiator flushing of high mileage vehicles, like mine.Supposedly Ford does not advise this, nor do GM,Chrysler.I have dropped the pan and changed the filter so far,but of course this does nothing for whats left in the torque converter.Any hints or experience on this please?.
fluid exchange no flush. Some people disconnect one of the trans cooler lines at the radiator and start the engine let the fluid go into a bucket and fill the trans with oil as it flows out.. when you've remove about 15 quarts you've exchanged it. Shops have a machine/tool for doing this but you want exchange only not flush.
Had a 03 5.4 and it was an awesome engine! Got it with 77000 miles drove it 4 years and when i traded it in it had right at 150,000. Nothing ever done to it other than oil changes every 5k miles and a set of plugs (left the original coils on it). Great Engines.
Now have a 07 5.4 and have already put 9,000 miles on it in 3 months and its runs like a brand new one.

Iv had my 1999 F250 for 6 years now..i got it with 70k and it now has 215k miles on her .. its a great engine and with basic maintenance it will run forever ... I always use full synthetic oil as well as yearly tune ups.
