2011 F-150 5.0 using oil?
Bought the truck new from jimmy granger in stonewall, la. Had 15 miles on it when I left the lot. I now have almost 38,000 miles on it and from the very first oil change to the last oil change it uses right at 1qt between oil changes. I change the oil every 4k to 5k miles. I use valvoline 5w-20 dura blend oil and Fram oil filter. No oil leaks. So has anyone else had this problem, it drives me nuts because IMO it should not use any oil.
Sorry. Didn't see a problem listed in your post?? Seriously though, one quart per 5k miles is not an issue according to Ford and everyone else. Sorry you feel a new motor shouldn't use any oil, but that's just not realistic. And if it ever happened, it'd be sheer luck. Adding the fact your "consumption" is so consistent, that's even evidence of less of a "problem".
So say if I wanted to push it all the way to 10k miles before I decided to change it I would have to ad 1 qt because it would be on the add mark around 6k miles. I've had a few vehicles use a 1/2qt and had one that used hardly any.

They put a dip stick on your motor just for this reason. Oil consumption it not considered excessive until your using a quart every 1000 miles. Check the oil add when low. Ditch the orange can of death filter. Thats the only thing wrong with your engine.
Isn't orange a sign of caution? I too would caution you to lose the "orange can of death" or you will have worse problems than a quart of oil in 6K mi. You can buy a Motorcraft filter at Wal Mart for the same or less than the trash Fram. By the way, it is unrealistic for an engine to use NO oil. I have had quite a few new cars and trucks and the current '11 that my wife drives is the 1st one ever that uses no oil in a change, and it calls for and gets 0-20 full synthetic. Most of them have used around a pint or a little less at 3k -3500mi. changes. I change the '11 at 7500 mi. (calls for 10,000 mi. changes) and no oil consumption.

I have had plenty of trucks that used almost no oil, so this whole "engines always use oil bs" is ridiculous. That being said every ford I've owned consistently burned about a quart between changes. Keep enjoying the truck!
ROM: I agree with the above posters... Stick with Motorcraft oil filter... Your oil consumption is nothing to worry about... If you are worried? Change brands of oil on your next oil change and compare...
I'll give you 2 suggestions. Change the PCV on it. You won't be the first with a bad new one. Next oil change use Pennzoil yellow bottle 5w-20 and a Motorcraft or Purolator filter. If neither of those changes effects oil usage, have the oil analyzed and get the oxidation, nitration, TBN, and TAN numbers- they cost more than the normal 25 dollar report. If you have no clue what they mean, PM the report and I'll go over it with you. You may have other issues in the engine that can easily be addressed like a stuck ring pack on one cylinder. But try the PCV and Pennzoil first. It's going to cost you less than 15 bucks for the PCV.
