Grinding sound coming from the motor area??

A few weeks ago I went fishing after a lot of rain and I had to go through a puddle. That ended up being a miniature pond. I have Mud Dawg's, so I put it in 4x4 L and tranny in 1 gear and had to go back and forth a few times, but eventually got out. This noise started after this day. Any ideas to what this could be??

I had a similar sound, and it turned out to be a bad solenoid for the 4wd actuator. It had water in it and was trying to activate the hubs. Try locking it in 4wd and see if it goes away. If the noise goes away, try blowing out the lines. If not the solenoid is only $25 from Ford.

If thats the truck he is refering to...again more info regarding the actual truck, mileage, etc. that the op is posting about would help a lot....I know people with two or three trucks not just the one in their sig. My fault for not asking that question AGAIN.

Pull you serp belt off and then listen. It sounds to me like its a bearing going in either the serp belt tensioner or the idler pulley. take care.

Can the idle pulley going bad have anything to do with the idle going up and down when braking or when I pull into my driveway and put it in park??

The idler pulley has nothing to do with the engine idle. It is the pulley on the front cover that runs against the serp belt not is not the belt tensioner pulley, it helps control the serpentine belt stability. I'm just guessing it may be one of those pulleys you have to remove the belt and see if the noise goes away.

take the belt off and roll all pulleys on the engine,,, the one that makes that noise or the one that feels like it has resistance is your noise maker

I've done that before. Either of them kept spinning after I spun it. Should it still continue to spin freely?? Talking about the idle and tensioner.

Yes, they both should spin freely. Just turn them with your fingers, if they feel rough they should be replaced.

No it is not coming from the transmission. As you stated in the duplicate thread in the transmission section, the noise went away when you removed the serpentine belt.

That means it is on of the items driven by that belt. Look at power steering pump, water pump, alternator, or idle pulleys. It can only be one of those. If I missed any accessory, someone else will mention it.
