5.4L or 5.0L

Okay heres the deal. I have recently been looking at two different trucks to replace my last one. A 2010 with. 5.4L and a 2012 with a 5.0L. Can anyone tell me what the differences are and which would be better?

Totally different engines. The 5.0 will give you better gas mileage. There is nothing wrong with the 5.4 as far as I am concerned and if the price is a lot better, I would be happy with it. However, I love the 5.0 and if there is not any real incentive to go with the 2010, I would go with the 2012.

2008+ 5.4s are great motors. It's all preference.

My son sold his 2006 F150 supercab with 5.4 3v and bought a 2011 F150 supercrew with the 5.0. He pulls a 4000 lb boat alot. The 5.0 has much better towing and and overall power than the 5.4 did and so far better fuel economy as well. The 5.0 is impressive. jmo

My father in law has an 04 with the 5.4 and a 12 with the 5.0, he says the 5.0 has better power and MPG.

5.0 all the way!!!
seriously?
the 5.4 is dated technology and has the cam phaser issues and the 2 piece spark plugs will have to be dealt with eventually.(they might have updated the plugs idk) the 5.0 could be problematic, but it has yet to be seen.
lets think about it 310/320 hp 5.4 vs 360 hp 5.0 ,plus the 5.0 gets BETTER gas mileage.

Me, the 5.0! It's got better power and mileage. If price is a big factor, you won't be disappointed with the 5.4 at all. Fact is the 5.0 is just better.

The 2010 5.4 he is looking at does not have the cam phaser issue like the 2004, does not have the 2 piece sparkplug like the 2004 thru early 2008 and has a 6-speed tranny. The 2010 5.4 is a very good, proven engine, but the 5.0 will get a little better gas mileage and have a little more power.

We do have some reports here of noisy phasers in the 2010. It's not totally immune.

I know there was one reported on this site but that is all I recall. My point is that it was not a greatly recurring issue with the 2010. I look at it as it's mechanical and anything can go wrong with any given engine. I had great luck with the 5.4 and would have been happy buying another had they been in the 2011s. Having said that, I am very pleased with my 5.0. In my mind, the 6-speed transmissions do more for all these engines than it gets credit for.

I do wish they had 6 speeds on our engines when they came out. If feels like there could be a little more down low to keep the gear changing smoother.

I owned a 06 with the 5.4 and recently sold it and now have an 11 with the 5.0, the 5.0 gets better mileage for me. I am getting in town with the 5.0 what I was getting on the highway with the 5.4. With the 5.4 I was having issues with the cam phasers and it was starting to get annoying. The 6 speed tranny is also a good thing with the 5.0
