autozone "rents" the tools for 20 bucks and refunds your money when you return them. Or just hang onto them because its low cost for a decent tool

Get the set listed for the old ford 4.9 I6

THE 5.4L IS IN FINALLY! It has been a bit of a fight but its now sitting in its new home...I rented the fan removal tools and even got a huge cresent wrench and we still were not able to get the stupid fan off! we finally said screw it and shoehorned it in with the fan on and it really wasnt even that bad!

I am trying to search for it, but does anyone know off the top of their head if the knock sensor under the intake runs out the back or the front? I dont have the engine harnes in the truck yet and I want to get the intake manifold back on but cant remember how that was routed.

I do believe the back. Don't quite me though seeing how I have no access to a ford right now. Haha

Was just going over some pics of my swap. On the 00 5.4L that went in, sensor is toward the front and wire runs to the back.

The wires for the knock sensor come out the back. The only wire coming out the front is for the CHT (cylinder Head Temperature) sensor.

You can see it here. And the CHT sensor (white) if you look hard enough, its a messy pic.

I'll see what I can dig up. A lot of my pics are close ups for particular areas that I was concerned for everything to go back together. To be honest, I never had to use them. It's one of the most simplest wiring and vacuum layout I have seen. Other than the injectors and cop's there really isnt much, only a few sensors.. and most of the wiring harness is already pre shaped to go in the areas where they go so once its on, it speaks for itself. Same with the vacuum lines for the pcv system and such, they are pre formed and go right back into their perspective areas. Hardest to reach will be your upper 02 sensors. Mine were still attached to the back of the heads which made it easy to plug back in since they were stationary. I have lots of pics though so if theres a particular area you want to know about, I'll look around.

^^^Agreed!! The wiring harness and vacuum lines just fall into place on these. They are probably one of the simplest to get wired.
