White Smoke on Initial Start Up??

I just bought an '02 SCrew 4x4 KR, on initial start up after a day it puts out a white smoke for a few seconds....can someone tell me what could be causing this and how I might fix it?

Is it the valve seals?

Thanks in advance..

does it smell like antifreeze? Is it cold in the morning where your at now? if its cold and it does not smell like antifreeze its normal condensation burn off.. If it smells like antifreeze your screwed.

its not cold here....im in arkansas, been in the 40s for lows.

it only does it after it has sit for a couple days. not smelling any antifreeze.

i think its more than normal condensation burn off.

Wellsir - oil will give you blue smoke.

There are no other sources for white smoke besides condensation or coolant... (unless someone plumbed yer WW fluid into yer intake, lol)

Confirm you DO have a 50/50 mix in yer system and not just plain water ... (or a very diluted mixture) - used truck, remember ....

EDIT - or, is a buddy playing a joke on you and adding a little Seafoam every day (dat dirty rotton, lowdown cotton socktucker)

White smoke is coolant and blue smoke is oil. Leaking valve seal(s) will cause this. A slow leak will take a few days to allow enough oil to leak into the cylinder to cause the smoke. Check the PCV system for leaks and the valve for proper functioning.

if its coolant i should be able to tell by looking at the oil though right??

ill check the PCV valve, might not hurt to replace it.

If you coolant level goes down, that would be a sign.

Probably just condensation in the exhaust, though.

Agreed ^^^^ keep a close eye on the coolant level. Remove the air inlet piping and check it and the throttle body for traces of oil I use an oil catch can system to trap oil and help reduce the amount going through the PCV system.

ive put a couple hundred miles on the truck now and i know the overflow for the radiator hasnt went down. while its cool i need to go check the radiator itself. planning to flush that within the next couple of days while the weather is nice.

so im not noticing coolant level dropping nor am i seeing oil level dropping. hopefully its nothing to worry about, but it bugs me. seems like a little more smoke than it should be. ill let it sit a few days and start it up and watch it closer and try to smell it.

thanks for the help thus far.

Some vehicles just seem to get more water condensing in the exhaust system than others.

Lots of short trips can get more moisture built up in there.

The vapor is also more noticeable in cold weather.

Keep an eye on the fluids, but you are probably fine.

Thats cold enough to get some good condensation when you start it. Both of my Fords and the wifes Nissan has the white smoke in the mornings on the first startup and its in the lower 50's here.I dont think you have any worries.
