Yes but you will need the intake manifold that goes with the Pi heads.

Why do you want to have them machined?

why would you not have used heads that you dont know how were treated and are already off machined? for under $200 you can get a valve job and surface the head

I would first inspect the head. We have a local machinist who can check the heads for flat and surface finish. If they don't need it he will not machine them. The intake manifold does not sit in a V channel like regular heads. It sits flat so if you machine it too much the intake runners will not line up properly with the intake ports in the head. If it is not machined to the correct finish the head gasket will not seal properly.

figured it'd be an ideal time to have them sent to a machine shop for a few extra ponies..as for the intake, where the tb meets the intake, can't you have that enlarged as well?

You can gasket match both sides of any surface where gaskets are involved.
Starting at the throttle body all the way to the heads. This eliminates any lip that can hinder the flow of air to the cylinders. What is involved is making the mating surface match the gasket. You grind away the metal so it makes a smooth transition between the two surfaces. The Throttle body can be enlarged a bit.

Higher compression is not bad. You may have to get a tune after the PI install. Mine seems fine I don't hear any detonation at all (doesn't mean I don't have a little at times) but I don't tow anything either. I know several other guys who have coverted to PI and they don't have any problems either and they have been driving theirs for a few years already. It all depends on your driving and the vehicle use. Get a tune or run higher octane if you think yours is knocking. Detonation can destroy the pistons if it goes unchecked..

I am doing some research on doing this, or something like this..
So to put on the PI heads you definately have to change the intake? What is different? Can Crown Vic heads or Mustang heads be put on? or are these PI heads too? I need to pull my heads and instead of repairing them, I am thinking of getting some used lower milage (mine has 185k) heads to replace them.
Thanks

The shape of the ports are different. You could search the bone yards for a Pi 4.6 Truck intake. Expect to pay about $200.00 for one.
