Nobody said to put it in the fuel

Nobody said not to either - or where to put it. Your recommendation could have easily been taken out of context because you were discussing cleaning out carbon.

Alright, - Yea I don't know what else it could be other than what's been mentioned in this thread. Could run a compresion check to see if it is indeed on the high side. If over 100,000 miles, I would change the forward O2's.

If it pings just as bad with premium gas, you think the knock sensor could be fouled or something?

Or there's a few 7mm, 8mm sockets, extensions or whatnot riding along side the knock sensor lol. Maybe it's loose ? In-fact, I replaced my knock sensor harness on my 98. The wires chafed right before the connector. The insulation dried out to a point it was brittle, - bared the wires and was only hanging together by a few copper stands before I caught it. Might be worth checking the harness anyway. Or at-least looking down in that valley on top of the block behind the alternator, - the knock sensor COULD be submerged in coolant or water.

However, wouldn't a bad knock sensor throw a code?
