When was the last time the plugs and wires were changed? Are the plugs and wires genuine Motorcraft? Is the CEL on, and are there any stored codes?

Also try mid-grade fuel.

Clean MAF, change fuel filter and plugs.

I replaced the plugs and wires that helped, I'll clean the MAF and change the fuel filter, thanks for the help, Larry

You need to post parts that you used or your not really helping us help you.

I used Motocraft plugs and wires for the change out, when I clean the MAF sensor just a little carb cleaner do the trick, Larry

glc 03-18-2010 05:38 PM

Do *NOT* use carb cleaner on the MAF, use MAF cleaner or non-residue electrical contact cleaner.

Thanks, good thing I asked, Larry

Bought some MAF cleaner, it did not look dirty but gave it a good cleaning anyway seems to run better, thanks for the help, Larry

You know I have driven this a while and the ping seems to be gone, (good news) but it dogs a little at low rpm, this is a 5 speed manual but it is doggy til 1500 rpm then fine as fine can be, any ideas, the gear it's in dosen't matter, thanks, Larry

No codes?

Brew8 03-26-2010 06:42 PM

No there are no codes, I did get the check engine light several weeks ago it was a missfire on number 5, but nothing since, I would have thought I would have gotten some with all of the studder, Larry

Sounds like high compresion, -might want to take it in for a Motor-Vac service at the dealer. It sure couldn't hurt. It will cost around $100, but it will clean the inside of the motor up. Might want to also start a regimen of using AutoRX, - that's the only additive that really works.

In other words, I think you have allot of carbon build up ie- tops of the pistons and the valves.

glc 03-27-2010 10:22 AM

AutoRX is for cleaning the oil system, don't put it in the fuel. Use BG44K, Techron, or Gumout with Regane for that.
