Need help/advise

I have a 97 4.6L with 172,000miles. On my way home from work she started shimmering and shaking then the check engine light was blinking like 50 times then went steady for a while then back to blinking. The whole time she is shuttering kinda bad. I stopped at Autozone to get a code they said it was a "number two missfire". I don't know much about these motors. Is this something I can do myself? I'm handy just not used to working on modular motors. I was told to pick up a coil pack and plug. Is that right? Hope I don't sound like a idiot. I just don't have extra $$$ right now I'm hoping I can do it and save some labor $$$.

Basicaly I'm asking if you think from the Autozone dignose of a number two missfire would you agree it's most likely a plug and coil pack? If yes, I was told the order from the front of the engine looking towards the back of the truck was:

8 4
7 3
6 2
5 1

If this is correct the plug is accessable and I know I can replace it myself. Is there anything I should know to do this job or is it just pop it out and pop the new one in?

any info would be great, thanks in advance.

2 6
1 5

This is the correct pattern, #2 is the second from the front on the passenger side.

Thanks that was perfect...

I also have to appologize before I get slammed here. I just did a search and this had been covered many, many, many, many, times... I was just flustered due to that I dropped over $1,000 into her in less than two weeks on general maintenence stuff. So sorry and thanks.

Get wires. You have coil packs (2) I'd replace the wires first iif the coils are bad you can get those next. Most likely just the wire though. Get Motorcraft wires. others are prone to failing. Rock auto probably has them at a discount so try them first. you could see what they want for the coil packs while your at it.

I ordered the plugs and wire set from http://www.rockauto.com/ just now it was $108.00 shipped 3Day Express (It would have been $98.00 ground but I can't wait that long).

Thanks again for all your help. Now I just have to borrow a tourqe wrench to properly install them. thanks again.

What is the correct part number for my year and make coil pack?
1997 4.6L F-150 4x4 extended cab

jethat gave me this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-I...item5886071f9e and has a part number of DG491 / DG508. That part number conflicts with glc's part number DG530. I need to know the correct number so I can try and get her running right again. Thanks guys.
