The rear end now holds 5, yes five quarts of Amsoil 75W140 Severe Gear!! As for the tranny pan, I think they have two now...one increases the capacity by 3 quarts. I forgot what the other one was, but I think it was more. Both are on Mags web site. Yea, I want a matching tranny pan also.

brew u got other pics of the oem unit? i really dont know why but i like the idea of remote filter with the 820s filter.

The system has a different oil cooler adapter. There's a few diagrams of that in my old "Diagram Gallery" about half way down -

hmm, just might have to go find the oem unit. although i still dont prefer my filter being horizontal.

I was curious about that at first, but no problems. With your set up now, I might question it tho. First question would be - Did any of the lightnings have a remote system ? Does anyone use them in higher compresion motors?

Personaly , I haven't seen any.

Yes, mine is completely custom pieced together. Not too many components though so it's easy to do. Filter mount, spin on adaptor, and what ever you need to construct your hoses.

Klitch, if it's for your own peace of mind that's fine, but there's absolutely zero benefit to going the OEM route to run an 820 filter. If you're hung up on using a MC filter, just use a FL-1A as mentioned earlier. If you're hung up on the dilusion that the 820 is the best filter you can get, the I don't know what to say.

Do some searches though, there's been several threads here over the years about problems with the factory unit...mostly about the fittings of the factory hoses. Mine will be around when my truck is long gone.

I built my exact same kit for my dads truck so we have a combined mileage of somewhere around 200,000 miles on my set up completely issue free. And, no worries on which direction the filters mounted. Mines completely verticle so I can fill my filter to the brim before I install.

You wouldn't happen to have any pics or parts list of your kit would you Galaxy. Looks like a good setup to do.

I'll get up some more photos in a bit (I'll figure it out brew!!). But the parts list is easy...just remember mines expensive!!

--Peterson Fluid Systems filter mount
--Perma-Cool spin on adaptor
--x feet of Earls -10 stainless braided hose
-- appropriate Earls -10 AN fittings (dependent on filter mounting location)

Permacool at the time was the only ones I could find that made the spin on adaptor to fit the 5.4 thread size. It's an OK piece as long as you leave it alone once it's on.

Peterson makes dry sump oil systems so their stuff is beyond tip notch. All billet, single piece, AN fittings included, and the threads for the filter are pressed in, not screw in like some of the other cheaper kits. This piece alone I recall was way over $100.

The hose you'd just have to piece together depending on your mounting location... Like if you want straight fitting, 90* fittings, etc. I haven't checked in a while but -10 hose is around $8 a foot. Fittings ain't cheap either. My hose construction alone was just over $200. But it sure looks better, is safer, and will outlast some rubber hose with hose clamps...which BTW is what you get in most of those kits.

galaxy: not some delusion that the 820s is better, just a weird preference not to have to remember my filter is different than my moms 99 mustang. i suppose it really doesnt matter except for the fact i have about 12 820s filters. the way mom drives the mustang, it'll be over 12 years for those filters to be used lol

Brew: its a high flow oil pump that i have, im not high compression because its a blown motor. at WOT and up to temp, i can still see my oil pressure hit the 90's sometimes. BUT, even std hydraulic hose handles much more than my oil pump will ever dream of putting out.

Well, I've heard of O-rings going out before in the stocks systems, but not much else. I never had a leak or replaced hose so far. Hell all my hoses are stock/originals except for the feed and return @ the heater core. - Ford didn't scrimp with their hoses. Stock system has held up pretty good.

although my water pump builds awesome pressure too. launched 2 different soft plug style block heaters out lol.

- I'm glad I never had the block heater option on the 5four, I've heard they leak stock. There was a plug on the 7.3 tho when that was around, but never used it.

My stock hoses on my 4.6 leaked. so do the hoses on the new motor. . . Fords oil filter reloca kit FTL
