Sounds good! Just wondering how much of a difference that makes power wise.

Got mike squared away with the tune and the sound is awsome.

Now Mike, Go put some 91 or 93 in the tank and lets see what the truck does.

I got another truck coming in today from the local ford Dealer for the same setup, CAI , Gear and some tuning.

Ok...

ok, i got the tune upload today (this morning)
And took a 1 1/2 mile ride. Holy moly..what a difference! Granted i only went to 3000 rpm's. I have to run couple tanks of 93 thru it, to get all the 87 out to run it hard.
Then i'll post some more clips.

i smell rubber in my near future!

this was stock motor: added cams, headers and cai and of course tune!
All i can say i have a BUTT load more torque off line compared to stock (seat of the pants meter). I know for sure i can light the 33x15.5 up now.

When you started hitting around 2000 rpm...it wanted to really run!

I pulled in my driveway (which is gravel at the moment) Bump the gas a little and i went sideways!! lmao If i would have really got on it, i could easyly done a full circle with no effort. lol

all i can say is...i'm REALLY liking the truck now!

Edit: by the way! thanks joe!

Will these cams work on a 01 F150 5.4? I love the sound of these cams but not sure if they will work on my truck. If they won't can anyone suggest what is comparable and will work on my truck

Cheers

Any guess on the power the cams make?

You have a 2 valve motor, the '04+ trucks have different heads with 3 valves per cylinder, so no they will not work. There are plenty of cams available for 2v motors though.

A rough guess based on mucho research looking at results on 4.6's (can't find any 5.4 results) would be about -10 on peak torque with the torque curves crossing (start making more) at around ~3800 rpm with peak hp gains of maybe 10. Thats on a stock motor. With longtubes I'd say similar down low with gains up to ~20 hp up top. All at the wheels. Those are guesses like I said, but I've spent hours upon hours researching 3v cams. If I were to pick some for my motor right now (I'm installing a 3v soon) and didn't want to change springs I would get Comp XFI NSR stage II (part #127200). I believe the Hot Rod and Comp Thump'r cams are spec'd as much for a lumpy idle as they are for power gains, I want max power gain with a cool idle being a side benefit. The Hot Rod and Thump'rs have tons of overlap and narrower lobe centers than I'd want to put in a 5.4.

bigbuckmuddaugh, was your truck tuned previously or are you adding tuning at this time also?

The thumper cams say that they have big power gains above 4500 and seeing that they rev out at 5000 I dont see them being worth it... am I wrong???

Most cams will give you some lope at idle, it might not be the hard chop of the Hot Rod cams, but it will sound good.

For your 2v I'd call up Hitech Motorsport and get their stage II cams, they work fantastic on 4.6 motors and have a bias towards intake duration and lift which will help a 5.4 as the 2V 5.4 struggles mightily to get air into the cylinders.

On my previous comments....the cams I said I would pick for my 3v are because I don't tow and want more mid and top end gains, if you tow I would stick with a stage I Comp or other. Make no mistake you WILL lose some low end torque with cams. I also mentioned cams that require no springs, if you are willing to add springs I personally would get some customs from Ed Curtis. True custom cams for $650, same as the cheapest of the off the shelf grinds. Talked to him about cams for my new motor but I don't want to change springs right now.

Keep in mind that all the cams are designed to 4.6 motors, and the same cam in a larger motor will act "smaller". Lets say you find a graph where the 4.6 loses some torque down low and doesn't cross over (gain) until 4700 rpm. For a rough guess of what it will do in a 5.4 you'll lose a similar amount down low but will start gaining at approx. (4700*281/330) ~4000 rpm.

The Thumpr cams have a lobe separation angle of only 109, Hot Rods are 110, and those combined with very large duration makes for a lot of overlap, which WILL lose some cylinder pressure (less peak torque) than something with a wider lsa and milder duration.

Here's most of the 3v cams I've dug up...

manuf------------- duration @.050----adv. Duration----------lift-------------lsa

stock------------------193/216---------246/274----------.432/.435--------

FRPP Hot Rod---------221/240---------280/296-----------.472/.472-----------110

Comp Thumper-------226/246----------265/298----------.450/.450--------109
Comp Moth Th--------234/254----------273/306----------.450/.450--------109
Comp Big M Th-------242/262----------281/314----------.450/.450--------109

Comp XFI NSR I------214/227----------253/270----------.450/.450--------114
Comp XFI NSR II-----222/235----------261/278-----------.450.450--------115.5

Comp XFI VSR I------214/227----------253/270----------.480/.470--------114
Comp XFI VSR II-----222/235----------261/278-----------.490.480--------115.5

Comp XFI SPR I------221/228----------256/267-----------.523/.538-------112
Comp XFI SPR II-----229/236----------264/275-----------.535/.550-------112
Comp XFI SPR III----237/244----------272/283-----------.547/.560-------112

Crower stage I---------208/222---------261/278-----------.480/.468--------114
Crower stage II--------220/236---------264/275-----------.492/.492--------114
Crower stage III-------222/248---------284/294------------.490/.502--------115

BBR stage I------------227/233---------270/276------------.480/.480--------114
BBR stage II-----------241/251---------284/294------------.492/.492--------114

The BBR stage I actually have the specs I like best for my motor, but they are regrinds which I won't touch and BBR has plenty of detractors around the 'net...

bigbuckmiddaugh,
How about filling us in on some driving impressions? Any plans to dyno it?
