Man, this is the second time I did this. 1rst time I just replaced the entire starter and ate the price -$150 - 170. Played it smart and purchased the Bosch with a lifetime warrantee.

Well, I can't find the receipt anywhere. Can't find the box niether, so I think I thru it out.

I haven't tried to fix this yet. - Is it possible ?






See that little copper stub, that's what has to be soldered. The other metal deal is an aluminum rivet. I haven't attempted it yet, I wonder if that plastic cap pops off the solenoid so I can get at what I need to.

I'll give it shot and post the fix if I can do it. If not , they have another for me up town if I need it. Thing is, I know the starter looks old , but it's only about 10 months..

You shouldn't need a receipt, the store should have your warranty info in the computer.

yea all they should need is the part number and they'll give yuh another. at least that was what napa did for mine. i didnt even buy my starter just happened to have a napa lifetime on it so i got one while i had my motor out. i dont expect to work on mine for a while

why did you have the starter out?

 

Do you know what is causing you to eat threw starters?

 

Ohh, I was throwing a coat of VHT paint on the headers and didn't want to paint the harness. Plus I just compulsivly take sh^t apart

I didn't plan on taking it out actually - not until I broke the damn thing..That sucks. There's a very faint barcode on it still, man I hope they'll replace it.

 

My lil' bro is a lot like that.

I can remember dad saying, "that boy will pull the engine just to replace the air filter!"

Regardless, the boy can fix most anything.

 

I almost did that to paint the engine bay. I pulled from the lower intake and up instead. I just pulled the front bumper to work on my horns - they haven't worked in awhile.. I can see them real good now. Huh, maybe I should check the fuse?

when i did my motor, as i was pulling it out a couple people came up to me and asked what i was doing, i said i was changing the oil. they didnt know what to think with the motor half way out. never did see them again

yep only way to keep oil from leaking onto the cross member when u change out the oil filter

 

Hey Brew,
I put a new starter in my truck 6 months ago. Brand new from the box, I cracked the plastic, tightening the nut on that same post. They have that Post too close to the egde of the plastic edge. Of course they replaced it immediatly and the second one was fine. This time I used removable loc-tite and less torque when putting the nut on.
The problem your going to have is, it is a "phenolic" type plastic.
Very hard, super heat resistance, but it can be brittle. I know of no way to PROPERLY fix that phenolic material succesfully. I have alot of experience with phenolic brake pistons because I was contracted to engineer and build a fully automated system for the the largest producer of
"phenolic" brake pistions for a company here in Central NY.
By the looks of the pics you have, can you just replace the the solenoid maybe. Then again, i bet you give the parts store enough business that you will get your exchange no problem.
