Didn't use 5w-20-problems

Hey guys,

I changed my oil today but didn't have 5w-20 at the shop. I used 15w-40, because that's all that was there. Is this going to cause any problems? I'll use the recommended on the next oil change.

Thanks

ya 15w40 is diesel oil and it way to thick to be put into a gas engine
you should get that oil out and put the recommended in asap

you engine may not make it if you wait that long

that oil is much thicker than regular oil for gas vehicles so the oil may not be able to reach important parts in the engine

you will put a ton of strain on your oil pump and something will most likely get clogged

I don't think it'd really hurt anything. Diesel oils have a lot of detergents in them, so if anything it'll clean and desludge the ever living hell out of your engine (which could be a good or bad thing depending on what shape your engine is in). Me personally, I'd drain it and go back to a 5W20.

Better check your pcv system, you may have to blow it out depending how much build up you have already.

That's just crazy man.

5W-30 or maybe 10W-30, but 15W-40 is bit much.

The dealer usually charges $25.00 to do a full change, sometimes cheaper than 3rd party shops or quick lubes.

Make sure you tell them not to overfill, and check your oil level before you leave. So many please these days seem to be overfilling because they are careless.
