Metal grinding noise when accelerating

Metal grinding noise when accelerating

Ok i have a 2006 F150 4.6L XLT Supercrew cab and when accelerating i can hear ths metal grinding/pinging noise. It is kind of hard to describe. but the higher rpm's, the louder it is.
Any ideas? I know im not leaving yall much to work with.

pinging could be cheap gas, try a better, higher grade.

I have, its not really pinging, its more ummm,.. a grinding noise? sounds like its coming from transmission. its not real loud but i have had a couple people ask me what was wrong.

i had the same problem as you describe. it ended up one of the vacume lines came off on the RF hub and the IWE was grinding on the opposite side due to the vacume leak. under higher rpms it would disegage half way and grind. almost sounded like an exhaust heat sheild rattling. could be a bad iwe solinoid. pretty common if you have the old style one without the gaurd on it. its behind the battery on the firewall.

umm what do all those things stand for and how can i get it fixed? covered under warrenty? sorry, not familiarized with those parts or abreviations atleast

iwe stands for integraded wheel end. pretty much a fancy name for a hub, check the vacume lines behind each front wheel above the outer cv joint and make sure they are connected. if they are its probably the solinoid behind the battery has let some water in the lines. should be warranty.

Only 4x4's have IWE's and associated components - you didn't indicate whether you have a 4x4 or a 4x2.
