Tune up results in broken spark plugs and a huge repair bill
I just emailed today, I followed up with a phone call to complain about the TSB and its failure to remove plugs 100% of the time without them breaking. The Customer service rep was polite and took my complaint as well as my request for a date of When Ford is going to fix the problem plug. I also stated that there have been too many that have paid in excess of $3000 for a spark plug change when everything went wrong. I told her it was inexcusable for The many Ford consumers to have to pay for a defective design and product. So everyone start making your calls......

Dont know if this will work but I will make a call and email. If others take the time to do the same that will be a start. How will we know how many have called and if it is doing any good? Was doing some reading here somewhere about the sale of this site and noticed among the sponsors listed was Ford Motor Company. If this is true then they may be monitoring these threads. Where are the mods? Can't they give us some advice on how to get something done? Looked like some got results about the cracks that were appearing on the doors of some models.

This should be a "sticky".
Was wondering if anyone out there might know if this defective spark plug issue might be related to the following issues occuring with my 05 f150. During normal driving on the highway, and normal acceleration to 65 or 70, if I encounter a more than average incline on a hill, the engine seems to be missing a few beats just after the transmission shifts from drive to overdrive. This problem doesn't happen if I'm under full throttle, only normal acceleration. This can also happen if engine rpm's are at their lowest in overdrive prior to the computer telling the transmission to shift down to drive. Noticed this while the cruise control was set between 65 to70 or even at 55 mph.The dealership has replaced injectors, spark plugs, and the coils for cylinders 2 and 5 when the engine was missing real bad, but has not fixed to problem 100%. Any help or ideas you guys can give me would be a great help because the dealership can't even get the computer to generate any codes on this. By the way, thanks to the guy who let us all know about all of those parts that are still covered for 80,000 mile under warranty, might have to talk to my dealer rep about that. Doug. Palmer, Alaska

If your plugs come out fine, you are not a victim of the issue being discussed here.
How many miles do you have on your truck?
My truck has 39,000 miles on it, the dealership told me that their computer didn't show any problems with the other plugs, but i had still asked the same question to them and they told me ford would not authorize any replacement of parts that don't show defects. I have always replaced all plugs at the same time on my other vehicles, so I thought this was really unusual for so called Ford Experts to tell me.

So let me get this straight. Is the plug problem (breaking off in the heads) a 3 valve 5.4L problem only? Model years 2004 - present. The injector problem is isolated to the 2005 model years ?
Also , isn't there some 4.6L's in the Mustangs with 3 valve heads? Do they have the same problems ?
Is everyone calling Dearborn and Canada CSR's with there concerns?

As far as i know, the injectors in 2004 were good. For 2005 Ford changed the supplier and the trouble started. Don´t know until when the faulty ones were used.

I was wondering what the reason is. Maybe people put miles quicker on their (work/play) F150´s than on the Stangs and the problem there will get more obvious in a few years. Also probably more DIY from Truck owners that have to deal with those plugs.

Thanks, Yea I'm thinking about get something a little newer toward the end of April when work picks up, like an 06 model. I don't really need a 3/4 ton , but I might just go ahead and opt for the diesel. I guess I could look at the 1/2 tons with the 4.6L's, but I may look at a camper in the future as well - so lol . Damn! I like the 5.4L and want a 1/2 ton, but the expense, hassle and down time if I ran into this problem makes that look allot less appealing.
